Go and see the total remake! In a few weeks the Rooftopbar of the Duke will beone off the trendiest bars Kenya. For sur in Kisumu!!

Room Tip: The room are sober but clean. Rooms at the backside are more quiet.

Great views over Kisumu from the rooftop bar with cool seating and very reasonable drinks prices. Excellent food also available on the rooftop bar. Rooms average; clean enough and a decent size. Worst aspect of our stay was that we had to get up early for our flight so tried to go to bed early - was impossible with DJ playing ridiculously loud music until midnight (was a Saturday night).

At the end, the hotel was ok...the food is nice, the bed clean and the staff friendly and helpfull... BUT expencive for the place( for the same price you get a room in a 4 stars hotel in Malindi). Not an hotel for Italian standards. The rooms are large, but shanty and old and the bathrooms are horrid and far too old: everything is TOO OLD AND SHANTY...but all in all, ok for a couple of days stay.

If you're on a budget, the Duke of Breeze is a good option. Rooms are nothing fancy, but they are adequate.

The best part about staying here though is that you can enjoy the rooftop bar with its free wifi. If you want to enjoy a couple of Tuskers without going into town (it's basically in town so that wouldn't be a problem) then it's perfect.

They often have parties on the weekends, so if you're looking for an early night and peace and quiet then don't come here on a weekend.

The food is nothing to rave about, but it's edible which is more than can be said for many restaurants in Kisumu.

I've stayed many times at Duke, and will continue to. But the rooftop bar is getting too popular. It seems to be THE place to watch soccer or football games, and the open courtyard from the bar down to room floors allows all the noise to keep hotel customers awake until too late. The sheets were pretty threadbare this visit. But I still will go back!!! Excellent location and the most helpful staff!

All in all this is probably the best value for money you'll get in Kisumu, but I was not impressed by the rooms or the establishment in general. The rooms are relatively clean, have a fan and hot water, but are very run-down and poorly maintained. The roof top bar is excellent, though, and is a very enjoyable place to enjoy a drink watching the sunset. The big minus is that there are a disco there on Friday and Saturday nights, and because the rooms are situated around an atrium it feels like you're trying to sleep inside the disco - until the loud music stops at midnight. The location is as good as you can get in the middle of town.
