We stay near Kiboko Bay and go often to swim and have bites. One day, a friend took me to see the other swimming pools in Kisumu insisting that there are better, bigger, pools in the area. Other pools may be bigger, but I couldn't head back to Kiboko Bay Resort fast enough. Love the lake setting, the food, the service and the great old trees that are on the property. Special place.

In case you want somewhere to have a family or couple time away from the hot sun and noise, just a place next to the lake with a cool breeze and nerve cooling feeling, good food and spaciousness, then Kiboko bay is the place to be. Here, unlike in other expensive restaurant in other places in Africa like Kampala, is dominated by locals. It is not just a tourist place despite the prices. Therefore, you can meet Kenyans and feel being in Kenya :-) Rooms are clean and food great. What else can one need if not the above traits?

Room Tip: I usually like the rooms with the windows, or veranda facing the lake of the sea

My wife, son, niece and I stayed two nights at Kiboko Bay in August of 2012. It was nice to just sit, relax and enjoy the view of the lake. The restaurant and bar were excellent, as well as the staff. It was somewhat challenging if one were going to be making frequent trips in and out of downtown Kisumu-quite a lengthy and bumby tuk-tuk or taxi ride, but the ambiance of the resort went a long way toward making up for it. We really enjoyed getting up early in the morning to watch the hippos graze right outside of our tent. All in all, the nicest place we stayed during our two-week adventure in Kenya. There's nothing quite like it here in West Virginia, USA. Thanks for memories!

I did not stay at Kiboko Bay, but ate there three times during my stay in Kisumu. It's pricey for Kenya, but the food is excellent, particularly the lamb chops. Eating outside provides great views of Lake Victoria at sunset.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking your valuable time to review our restaurant facility and we are delighted that you have enjoyed your visits to Kiboko Bay Resort.
Your generous compliments will be shared with the team, especially our kitchen brigade.
Your concern about the menu being pricey by Kenyan standards is understood, nevertheless a PRIME FARMER'S CHOICE lamb chops with choice of accompaniements and vegetables at US$ 12/- inclusive of all the many taxes is understatingly good value. We also have delicious Kenyan dishes on the menu which are definitely pocket friendly by Kenyan standards.
Thank you once again for appreciating our cuisine and location, as we look forward to your next visit, which we hope is in the very near future.
Best regards,
Nirmal Darbar.

I and my family stayed 2 nights at Kiboko Bay Resort. It´s a very cosy place, great location by the lake as well as close to the Impala Sanctuary and town centre. However best of all is the staff including management, 5 star without any hesitation. Kind, attentive, service minded..the list could be long. Food is good and reasonable priced but not fabolous and the same goes for the tents. Our little girl appreciated that management allowed a late check out which gave her a few extra hours in the pool.
As always prices are high in Kenya compared to other destinations such as Asia or Americas but we will choose Kiboko Bay next time we are going to Kisumu and we recommend others to try it out

The place and location is great, BUT its High time the management of kiboko bay lobby the government to tarmack the Road. Modern business is about understanding the local way of doing things. The place is not cheap.....but the road makes it look so. The Road is pathetic Worse when it rains. Those going there must be aware to wash the car afterwards. I was just wondering why the owners of the hotel and the dunga residents cannot lobby the authorities to do something? I am made to understand that the new county govt is keen in doing something within the kisumu Bay Area....to attract tourism etc..maybe your resort can lobby?

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your honest review on Kiboko Bay Resort and also the extended Dunga Bay Area.
With sincerity we cannot disagree with you on your comments regarding the road, but also look at the positive aspect of your review especially your compliments on the location and the standards of Kiboko Bay Resort. We also take this opportunity to thank all our loyal clients without whose support Kiboko Bay Resort would simply not exist, the support of our esteemed guest is reflected in majority of the reviews posted and the excellent ratings we enjoy on tripadvisor.
Kiboko Bay Resort as you realize has only ten luxury accommodation units, the size and the turnover of our business constraints us from embarking on our quest to Tarmac the road relying on our own commercial resources, nevertheless we have been employing the local youths and filling critical potholes with soil and ballast to keep the road motor able, unfortunately we regret that it's never enough.
Please understand, that we opened a business in an area few people would dare, simply because of the numerous challenges, and we are happy that we have made a significant economic contribution in an impoverished neighborhood. Numerous small tourism service providers like the boat owners, taxi, tuk tuk and piki piki drivers and not to forget the car wash guys depend on Kiboko Bay Resort's existence. Kiboko Bay Resort works with the community to improve and enhance security and safety in the neighborhood.
The population inhabiting the area though economically weak are a hardworking, peaceful folk , we have frequently appealed for decent infrastructure to the local authorities and have been disappointed that the development of the area, in spite of its huge economic potential has not been a priority for the administration.
We perform with utmost honesty and try every thing possible to make our guest comfortable, we acknowledge with gratitude the support of our well wishers and their regular patronage and only hope the local authorities can also work to render service to the residents of Dunga.
Best regards,
Nirmal Darbar,
Director.

A group of colleagues and I enjoyed a weekend stay here during a trip to the Kisumu region. The staff are formal, but welcoming on the whole. The quality of service was excellent. Rooms are thatched, safari style tents, but luxurious, and highly recommended. The views over Lake Victoria are stunning. The surrounding area reflects the location, so the road leading to the resort is unmade. Well served by taxis.
