We had a few beers and sandwiches at the hotel served by a very polite, friendly and efficient lady. That was all fine.
Then we decided to 'do' the lake. That was a mistake!!!
We went to the prominently marked little building and were welcomed by several men. However, the petty fiddling started straight away with requests to donate to an allegedly operative lakeside tree planting scheme. They ask for anything up to 50 cedis - but as you might have guessed, the money goes straight into their pocket.
A 45 minute lake 'cruise' cost us the amazing sum of 120 cedis - which we thought was pretty steep, especially since the introduction implied that it would cost 40 cedis.
After our boat trip we discovered that the correct price is 70 cedis for a full hour.
If you go - and the boat trip is interesting - make sure that you don't pay any more that 35 cedis for 30 mins or 70 cedis for a full hour! Also, DO NOT make a donation to the spoof tree planting scheme.
This experience puts Ghana in a very poor light.More
