“Do not stay here. This is a dangerous place to stay”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2011

Please do not stay here, theft is widespread and the hotel management are not willing to help the guests. During my stay my room was broken into whilst I was asleep. The hotel management did not apologise for 11 hours and only after the police were fully involved.

If you want to be at risk of criminals entering your room then the Sandbra is the place to stay, if not...

i had a very nice time in the sanbra hotel, only there was at one point no water, but that happens more often in ghana :)
we had a room at the street side with a very nice balcony overlooking the street, i didn't think it was noisy at all. but this maybe depends also on the day you are visiting.
i loved the location, you can walk just out of the hotel to go to the market or get something to eat

This is a city centre hotel. It is in the centre of the city. It is on the centre corner. On this corner street-preachers start at sunrise and they have VERY powerful noise-amplifiers and they compete. One has a bullhorn and the other a full stack of concert-speakers and a microphone. Additionally there are street vendors, sellers, and traffic.

The value is good. The restaurant has a long list of items on offer and most will be available to you for good cheap prices.

The rooms are spacious and have all the necessary amenities including tv, showers and toilets, and maybe even AC depending on which room you choose.

However the rooms are dark with dim light bulbs.

If you want to experience downtown Kumasi then this is a good place to do it. However you won't feel too comfortable walking alone after dark as is the nature of most downtown centres in Africa.

I had a horrible time at this hotel. It unnerved me to get so little sleep and to wake up to the shouting (preaching). The darkness was depressing and the power was always going out making it all the MORE dark.

That said, if you go in realizing all of what I have said above, then you will probably have a great time. It is a nice hotel with good staff and so it is all about personal preference.
