I booked my hike with Dezy very last minute. Luckily, I was able to join another solo traveller looking to do the same hike. Despite the short notice, everything, starting from the airport pickup, was organised really well and went very smoothly. Dezy was very accommodating, he speaks great English and he has clearly great experience in organising the hikes. We had a great guide, Mutukulu, who studies tourism and was really knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and spoke good English. Our chef, Solomon, was great too. Each dinner was a huge feast with several different dishes and several choices of breakfast foods. The tents were really good quality and water proof (some other groups tents were leaking and they had to stay in huts) and we even got spare blankets for the coldest nights. I’m really happy I went with Dezy - I couldn’t have asked for a better hike. You can get in touch with him on: dizzysimien@gmail.com

Early in the moring we started the hike. It was the day after the holy mass in the church. It was Fasika!
After walking for about an hour we saw a nice house. Father just slaughtered a goat! Banthihun asked them if we could have a look.
And so we were invited. As it was Fasika, the whole family was there, and we were offered to try some injera and some other food.
The hospitality was so nice!

Then we continued hiking and started to climb the mountain. The views were getting more beautifull with every step we did.
Bantihun watched us carefully and knew when we had to stop a bit for a small rest.

During the hike we visited two families and had a coffee with them. The contact with the families were so warm, they are extremly friendly and hospitable. It was so strange to see how they live, with the cows and donkeys in their houses. Good to have a close look on their lives.

Then when we finally arrived on the top, we saw the nice Eco Lodge. The warm welcome we got there was amazing. They came with blankets, started the fire and gave us some soup!
The evening that followed was the best in de whole trip. We did sing together and we had fun with each other. Bantihun translated, so we had a good converstation with the locals who worked in the Eco Lodge. Which was really interesting for us, but also for them!

For us, this was the best experience! Hope to come back one day and enjoy the amazing environement again.

We met Bantihun Wondimun (bantihunwondimun@gmail.com), a tour guide for the Simien Mountains during our visit to the Simien Lodge. He seemed very knowledgeable and eager to assist in any travel needs we had. His English was very strong, and the time that we spent with him was enjoyable.

Last march I met Dezy dizzysimien@gmail.com (+251918156611) in Gondor. I booked a three days trip to Simiens Mountais. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The guide was perfect, being always careful about everything.

He also gave me information about the trip to Danakil Depression. He put me in contact with an agency in Mekele. He organized the transfer to Mekele and the complete trip to the astonishing Danakil. As a result, it was one of my best experience in my life.

I encourage to get in touch with Dezy on your trip to Ethiopia.

My friend and I took a week holiday in Ethiopia in March. We spent 3 days trekking in the Simien Mountains and 3 days visiting Gondar, Bahir Dar and Lalibela. We booked all our tours, guides and transportation with Dezy and we could not have been happier. He and his company had been recommended to us through many female travellers we know and what a true recommendation it was. From the moment we landed in Gondar, Dezy started taking care of us. The Simien mountains were stunning and a very unique experience for both of us. We are not experienced trekkers or campers, but Dezy and his team took very good care of us. The food was delicious and we were provided everything we needed to stay warm and comfortable. After our hiking experience, we traveled with Dezy by van from Gondar to Lalibela, an incredible way to see the landscape and eat local food. In 2 days, we were able to see the sites in Gondar and in Bahir Dar including Lake Tana's resident Hippo family and stunning Blue Nile Falls. We also had a chance to have a memorable night out with Dezy in a traditional bar. On the 3rd day we visited the Churches in Lalibela. They were, along with their history, beautiful. We could not have asked for or organized a better trip. Thank you Dezy for the memories. We will be seeing you again very soon.
