“Good B&B, excellent extra's”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

We (2 people) stayed for 1 night in Maun. This B&B does a very good job. The owners are very friendly but the most excellent thing we experienced was the western like completeness of the services.

For instance, the signs. It is probably the only place in Botswana which is more easy to find using roadsigns then the combination of GPS and maps.

Secondly, in the breakfast aera there is a postwall with all kind of usefull information such as restaurants, toeristic places and supplystores.

Good choice for a Maun base: the rondavels are very clean and the beds are huge. It is rustic as others have said but very in keeping with the whole Botswana experience. If you are in rondavels numbered 1 to 5, you'll be using one of the four outdoor showers which are brilliant if quite exposed. Breakfast is basic but tasty as others have said. It would be easy to add fresh filter coffee instead of the powdered stuff but we brought our own and made it in the room. My son had a great time hunting (successfully) for bush babies and Genet cats in the evening with the night watchman. All in all, it was a great base from which we explored the Delta, went to Moremi and did a brilliant scenic flight with Mack Air.

Room Tip: Try for a luxury rondavel (rooms 6 to 9) which have larger en suite bathrooms.

Stayed here for one night when my my flight to Maun was cancelled and missed the connection on to a Delta camp. The ownsers are a lovely Dutch couple who genuinely care that you enjoy your stay, my room had a shower outside but this did not bother me at all as the showers outside were close, clean and powerful with hot water. Refreshing with it being so hot. This Lodge is an approx 20-30 min drive from Maun airport ( located in centre of town) . It's not an area you can walk out onto the main road but it won't be an issue at all. The owners recommended I have dinner a the nearby thamlakanee river lodge which serves lovely continental cuisine. I had a pepper steak which was t die for. I didn't cost much and was only a few minute drive for the lodge. The owners will be happy to book a taxi for you. The lodge is excellent value for money, has a lovely clean pool and small comfortable breakfast area. They also take card payments which is really useful. If you are looking to do something on the evenings the nearby Motsana has an open air move theatre showing films every Thirsday night at 730 for 20 pula. They also serve good food and drinks.

We stayed three nights in Discovery Bed and Breakfast in Maun.

The place is great when you are coming from the Moremi Reserve or when you plan to stay a few days in and around Maun.
The owners have been 6 years in this business and build a remarkable place. Do not expect a fancy lodge with air-condition, but you will get a friendly atmosphere and basic, clean and nicely decorated cabins.

The cabins have an African themed interior with very good beds. Some of the more luxurious cabins have showers with hot water, but we booked a basic cabin and had fun experiencing showering in the open air showers situated in the garden while enjoying the birds and the sun.
The nine cabins are placed in a well maintained garden and in the evening there is a nice and cozy campfire.
You are able to get drinks from the fridge and have a moment to chill and relax.
There is a taxi service to Maun for about EUR 5,- and the next door neighbors have an excellent restaurant where you can enjoy a great sunset while drinking a cocktail and or having your dinner.

We would definitely recommend Discovery B&B.

We stayed at Discovery after our mobile safari and before we caught a flight back to the States. The owners were more than accommodating with airport pick up, transport to lunch/dinner locations, arranging our taxi back to the airport, and even exchanging currency for us. It is a bit out of the way, but that didn't bother us at all as we would have to get transport to dining, etc anyway. The showers were lovely and the rooms were well taken care of. Would highly recommend.

Nice rooms. Helpful staff. But out of town but maun seems pretty spread out anyway. Couple of places to eat not too far away but you will need a taxi if it's dark. Owners offer lifts but will charge. Breakfast ok but a bit basic.

My daughter & I stayed with Rene & Marije at their delightful B&B and instantly felt at home. Their attention to detail was lovely and they genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable. We stayed in the en suite hut which was decorated in traditional style and was comfortable and clean. The beds were soooo very comfortable after camping. If you're looking for something different then give this a go. These people care and will do what they can to help you get the most from you're stay.
