“Average accommodation in Maun”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Stayed in the permanent tents which were fine. Ablution block was below average, but usable. The female manager is likely an alcoholic, but I found her friendly, and she did get my one-day makoro trip organized without issue.

Indeed this place is about 10km from Maun, however, if you want to stay on the river bank, I believe this is where you need to be. The well-rated Audi Camp is right next door.

This is budget, backpacker style accommodation with an active bar, but we saw many families here as well, and all seemed to be enjoying themselves. On the busy Easter weekend, the place was busy, but the annoying noise was coming from the disco next door, not in the control of the ORL folks.

We stayed here in the Meru tents, chalets and camping. The tents were good value and clean, the ablutions aren't great but ok. The ablutions in the camping are below average, no locks and the showers don't drain etc. The chalets were fine. The bar is good and the food is good and reasonably priced. It was a bit busy on the weekends though. The location beside the river is lovely- great for bird watching and we saw a hippo in the river several times. Staff were helpful. As most of the accommodation around Maun its a bit out of town but its easy to get a minibus in a taxi shoudln't be more than 40 pula

To start with ,this place is located about 13 kms from the center of Maun. It is not convenient to anything in town and you will need to take a taxi or bus to get to this hotel. Second, it is a very cheap backpackers place. The room was very run down and beat up, with a stong smell of insecticide. The on-site restaurant serves only basic bar food, which is not very good. I had to wait nearly an hour for a mediocre breakfast. The staff does not seem care about the needs of the customers. Also, even though it is far from town, it is still very noisy, not just from the nearby road, but also from the noise coming from the bar nearly all night long. There have got to be better options in Maun.

Ideal backpacker base for tours of Okavango Delta. Basic but good value chalets and tents with an attractive big riverside bar/restaurant that does great food. Efficiently run by helpful manageress and friendly local staff. Bar gets lively when locals visit at night, adding some fun colour. Nicer than Old Bridge Backpackers tho OBB is the better bet for cheap tours into Delta

The Old Bridge Backpackers is a very good place to stay in Maun due to its position (1h and half from Moremi Reserve entrance) and for its night bar.
We camped there for 4 nights on August 2011: our tent was just in front of the Okavango river. Staff is kind and they offer Mokoro trips for cheap prices. In the eveninig is amazing to have a cold beer at the bar staring at the stars...

Only for basic backpackers!
A lot of noise in the evening, coming from the bar where locals come.
Barkeeper not always friendly.
Rooms are old dated and beds (matrasses) as well!
Their mokoro trip is also for backpackers. Do not expect any comfort!
