“Housband and wife”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We write this review after almost 7 moths, for which we must apologise. We stayed in Lonnoc in May 2012 and got married there.
We already had personal references on the place so we knew it was going to be beautiful, however we did not know it was going to be so charming. A lot of people get married in Vanuatu, though not many in Santo and maybe even less in Lonnoc (we were I think the 3rd couple to get married there). I must say, it's a pity for all those who have their wedding in Port Villa in a resort surrounded with all other tourist. Or maybe lucky us, who chose to do it our own way:)

This was a place like no other, we had the whole beach reserved at the day just for ourselves, the staff prepared a wedding stall in a shape of a heart, made up our wedding kayak with decorations.... so romantic that is hard to describe. sun shining at the ceremony, sunset on the sea in the kayak.... dinner right next to the water, drinking champaign....
We needed to arrange the ceremony for yourselves, which was probably our biggest issue doing it from New Zealand, however after we got the right contact, it all went smoothly.

We stayed in the at the time brand new honeymoon apartment at the end of the beach with an outside shower, which was charming and the location of the bungalow also allowed us to take a swim in the sea like Adam and Eve in the paradise! Snorkeling is fantastic right from the beach, my wife have never snorkeled before but there she started too.
The food was great overall, during the wedding we got something special and it was delicious (i had fish, my wife lobster - both very satisfied).

We almost did not even got to Champaign beach, which is really close, although we had no need to go anywhere, Lonnoc is great as it is. We walked around the nearby village from where everyone who works in the resort is.

The staff was really helpful, despite our first impression from a meeting already in Luganville which was not that great, they are all very honest and greatly helpful people. They even offered a very talented lady as our wedding photographer, who made some really nice pictures, much much above our expectations (she turned out to be a local winner of an amateur photo contest!:)

What to tell more, there is not much we/they could have done better to make this day memorable in our lives.
thanks, and probably see you again at some point of our wedding anniversary:)

Thankyou for your comments, and we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your wedding at Lonnoc Beach. It certainly is a beautiful and peaceful place to exchange vows and start your married life together. Our staff have always enjoyed interacting with and helping out our guests in any way, but particularly for a special wedding to make everything perfect.
We wish you all the very best and we do hope to see you again one day - perhaps a special anniversary!

I think we expected more comfort and were disappointed with our room. But when we realised how much time we would spend in it, we realised it wasn't so bad! We only had a few days there but walked to Champagne Beach - on a beautiful quiet day.. The rest of the time we spent completely relaxing around the beach, on the kayak and in the water. I have to say that the food that Wendy and Bob put together is the best food I think I have ever tasted. We had coconut crab that took us 1 hour to eat. Next day, the Lonnoc beef was sublime... The owners are constructing some new bungalows and once they are up and running, expect this resort to become much more upmarket and pricey. We are glad we experienced it when we did - thank you for a wonderful and relaxing experience.

Our first night in Vanuatu was spent at Lonnoc, and the bungalows are definitely an escape. Pretty much the only sound you can hear is the crashing waves, and other than a few hours in the morning and evening there's no electricity. The only issue is that it rained most of our trip and as the shower is cold water only and we were already cool, sticky, and salty due to the weather, bathing wasn't the refreshing experience we hoped it would have been.

Furthermore, without being able to lay out on the beach, we got some cabin fever and nearby is only a quiet village, so we chose to go out on a driving adventure on day two of full rain, only to learn later that we blew quite a bit of money doing so. Even this was somewhat difficult to arrange since there were so many guests at the bungalows at the time.

All in all, while our hosts were kind and helpful, compared to Vila, which we stayed at later, we felt treated like a wallet at Lonnoc.

We stayed @ Lonnoc 2 nights while touring Vanuatu. The place is actually nicer than near by (more crowded) Champagne beach and when the sun is setting in Lonnoc the view is breathtaking. Lot's of funny crawlers around and spots for snorkeling and kayaking. The water on shoreline is mixed spring water and seawater so it's not so salty and you can see the cooler fresh water mixing into salty water while swimming on beach. The staff are lovely and helpful. Bungalows are basic but ok. The local business is always good but like the other local business they don't realize that they should deliver local food. It's the same thing everywhere: Plantations and trees are full fruits but it's really difficult to get them. Ask coconuts and fruits before you get there - then I'm sure they'll arrange them :) It's the same thing with juices for example. As a Finn (we do not have any tropical fruits) I cannot understand while they don't deliver things that are almost 100% free for them but very exotic for the tourists. While the place is worth to visit and stay couple of nights please remember to demand cheaper transportation (a buss with other guests etc if available). Usually there are a bus going at least twice a day. The transportation is expensive 50AUD - almost the same price as the accommodation - that's why they must develop the local business to be more co-operative and this will not happen if people just sowing money for 3 person mini-taxis. In Vanuatu the tourist always pays the transportation and after that they will pack the car/boat full of locals (which are sometimes also paying for their ride!) so it's not rude to ask that if you paid whole boat/truck and there was 10 other people traveling with the same ride that you get some discount. It's a matter of hundreds of dollars. There is a local kava bar (google) just across the road - please visit one of those. If you ask about kava bar from the staff they'll probably try to arrange some kava for you in resort but original kava bar is a nice experience (one bottle of kava = 100 vatu = 1AUD). About the day trips: The Black sand beach is definitely worth to see but if they offer you a hike in a bush please ask for waterfalls or blue holes. The route of the one we did in Black sand beaches village needs to be reconsidered by the locals. Oh... and remember to ask coconuts and fruits ;). And if you need any help ask Wendy - she is a very lovely lady of the house.

Room Tip: Take the biggest near by the sea.

Lovely beach bungalows! Jeanet was a wonderful hostess and I had a great dinner. If you are in a group and share a truck ride it isn't too expensive but if you are alone you might want to stay a few nights so you can get up early and ride back to Luganville with someone already driving in to town.

Free entrance to Champagne beach which has the softest sand of anywhere I've been. Safe and clean and I slept great!

We had a fantastic time. The beach here is stunning. If you want to snorkel Elephant Island is a short Kayak ride away. These are provided free at Lonnac. The staff treated us like family, and could not do enough to help make our stay perfect. I read previous review that did not rate the food highly. They have obviously improved on this, through comments. It was amazing, and we ate there every night. I especially recommend the Lonnoc steak. The steak melted in your mouth. We felt safe all the time, the staff patrolled the grounds and the locals all smiled and shared information with us. Make sure you do a trip to the local village, Bob is a great guide. He also knows about the medicinal properties of plants, and has an amazing sense of humor. Tip: If you do get a room with a cold shower - Bring a solar shower.

Thankyou for your wonderful comments about Lonnoc Beach Bungalows, and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.
We would like to mention that we are currently upgrading some of our bungalows, and this includes looking at providing hot water access to some of the Ocean View Bungalows. We currently have the 2 bungalows with hot water (Seafront and Honeymoon Bungalows), which have proven to be very popular, and we certainly would like to upgrade at least some of the Ocean View Bungalows to have hot water as well. Hopefully this will be in the near future.
Thanks again for staying with us.

How lucky we were to stay here, there were only a few other guests staying who all agreed -it's a magical beach with basic huts and amazing food! Wendy and her staff are so friendly and her daughter spent the morning playing with our two year old having a wonderful time. We would love to come and stay again and stay in one of the newer fares. We stayed in a very basic hut which was clean however the bathroom/toilet requires some attention, it appears that all the huts are pretty old but if you want to stay somewhere remote with a stunning beach at your doorstop this is it! The other bonus is it's only a short walk to Champagne Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Blue blue water and white powdery sand! The only other inhabitants the day we went were cows... sleeping!

Room Tip: There are two new fares just built and I would recommend staying in one of those if you are used to...
