Spent 4 wonderful days here with Joseph and Renata. From the moment we stepped on to the private jetty until our reluctant departure it was first class. The food was amazing - fresh seafood and imaginative desserts to die for !!! The Fale's were extremelly well appointed , comfortable, spacious and private... not to mention the beach location and views.
Nothing was too much trouble for J and R . Their friendly personalities and sense of humour added to our enjoyment.
We will definately be back :)

Even though we arrived right on the cusp of Tim and Teresa's departure, and Renata and Josef's arrival, you would never have known as the service levels never changed.
Literally nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic, with Josef in charge in the kitchen and Renata running the front of house.
No menu, but not a worry. They listen to what you like and make sure that every meal is right for you. But please be mindful that you are in the middle of nowhere and supplies can be limited. This didn't effect the quality of the meals, but the variety of fresh fruit and vegetables available can be limited.
The rooms (fale) were very well equipped, with great showers, plenty of hot water, fridge and a fantastic view from Fale #4, right on the waters edge.
But in all, a fantastic location, great hosts, excellent food and the best place to stay in Tonga.
And if you need a recommendation for Whale Swimming, Al and his team at Dolphin Pacific are the best.

We stayed only 2 nights. Place has just been taken over by Joseph and Renata. Fabulous location and very private. Great friendly attitude and nothing too much trouble. Food was excellent. A few problems with the generator did not interfere significantly with our enjoyment.

Four of us stayed for four nights and in a word Fabulous ! There are only four Fales in total so staying at the Reef Resort is a very intimate experience. The couple running the resort Joseph and Renata have only just taken over, and while they were experiencing a few teething problems they were quite simply the best hosts one could ask for. The food is superb, all local product. There is a nice lounge area to relax in and you are made to feel welcome and at home from the moment you arrive. We were there for the whale watching and our boat picked us up every morning from the Reef Resort jetty. We would definitely go back, especially with Joseph and Renata looking after you.

Reef Resort was absolutely wonderful. It was like borrowing a private beach home from very rich friends complete with your own private chef and butler. Teresa and Tim were just wonderful. Nothing was an issue. Teresa's cooking is to die for though lose a couple kilos before you go as there's lots and lots of food.

Great to go with other couples. We took three of the four villas, and the last one was empty - so it was like our own private resort.

WOW!

This one word sums up Reef Resort perfectly. From the moment we arrived, collected by Tim at the airport, we wanted for nothing. Great hosts, amazing location and by far and away the best food I have ever eaten whilst eating in-house at a resort.

We spent our time relaxing on our private sun deck, canoeing and snorkeling around the reefs close to the resort, and walking the local tracks to secluded beaches, Tim and Teresa were always on hand with suggestions of where to go and things to see, and ready to pack a lunch for us if required.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous then we can recommend the whale watching tour (all organised by our hosts) which was quite simply a magical experience.

Yes, Reef is expensive amongst other options in Vava'u, however as is true with most things, you get what you pay for. We came away from this holiday feeling truly revitalized, relaxed and vowing to return.

If you chose to stay at Reef Resort you will not be disappointed, everything that is written in these reviews is true and a testament to the hard work put in by Tim and Teresa to make this in my view THE best place to stay in Tonga!

Tim and Theresa have created a world class casually elegant resort .The fales are beautiful, large and tasefully decorated. They have AC, ceiling fan, a hugh bathroom, mini fridge with sink and a coffee/tea maker. The spacious front deck has comfortable furniture with beautiful views of the sea and surrounding islands. The common area is tastefully appointed with big comfy sofas, diningroom and well stocked bar. There is a large deck extending from the common area out to the waters edge with tables for outdoor dining. Theresa is a culinary genious, the food was superb. Wish she would write a cook book.
Tim and Theresa are the perfect hosts. No request went unanswered. Tim had even arranged for a horseback ride for us on Neiafu, which had not been offered to tourists in Vava'u until now. Semisi and Katharina, friends of Tim and Theresa offered to let us ride their horses while Semisi walked with us as a guide. We rode for 3 hours in the most beautiful setting I have ever seen. We rode through the bush, up breathtaking hills and down to the beach. Semisi and Katharina are actually going to offer this activity to tourists in the area. It's definately a must do.
Another must do is a trip to the village next door to The Reef Resort. One of the staff who lives in the village offered to accompany us. We had brought an American football with us in hopes to give it to some local children. We were shown through the village and brought to the school where we presented the football to the children. The teacher let the students out of class and we spent about an hour teaching them the basics of football. The children had a blast and we were rewarded with an amazing memory.
Again, with the help of Tim and Theresa we were able to charter 2 different fishing trips. One inshore reef trip and the other a blue water trip. My husband lives to fish so he researched fishing in Tonga prior to our departure. Through trip advisor he was able to find Kurt from Lucky's Beach Resort who specializes in GT fishing. Kurt is a fishing machine. WOW what a great day we had. We fished in the reefs and stopped at deserted fairy tale islands to have lunch and gather coconuts.
Tims recommendation to fish offshore with Keith from the Kiwi Magic was also outstanding. Tim joined us on the trip and Theresa, of course, prepared a lunch that was fit for the King. Captain Keith was extremely knowledgable about the fish and waters of Vava'u. He gave us a through explanation of the equipment and techiques that he uses to land large fish. I lost a really big tuna, but was able to land a 50lb wahoo, which Theresa prepared for dinner for all of us.
You can spend your days just relaxing on the beach, snorkeling in beautiful reefs, kayaking about pristine islands, fishing in and off shore. You can immerse yourself in the Tongan culture, hike or horseback ride. Its all here in Vava'u and Tim and Thersa are the perfect hosts to make it all happen for you.
Thank You Tim and Theresa for an unforgetable experience!
