“Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

Picture postcard view of the harbor from the floor to ceiling windows. In fact I think I saw our view on a postcard. The room was clean and spacious and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We needed to change plans because of Cyclone Ian and they worked tirelessly to make sure everything was in order. It is a short walk to downtown where there were ATM's, an open air food market and shops plus a couple of nice restaurants, however there are 2 nice options for meals right on the grounds. Free internet (unheard of in Tonga) at the main restaurant with your own device. A nice bonus. I enjoyed my early morning walks in the friendly community. Would definitely recommend this hotel in Neiafu.

Malo e lelei Carol K. First of all I would like to give you a big malo for positive feedback that you have given. Your feedback is very important to us to help improve the hotel service. We all know that we were very lucky in Vava'u that Hurricane Ian pass by our door step and left little damages. We hope to see you again in the future in Vava'u.

All the best.

Recently travelled to Vava'u and wanted to stay somewhere close to the town centre and near the water. Happy with my stay! Awesome view overlooking the harbour, stunning at sunset. Clean room with freshly laundered sheets on the bed, bathroom also clean with necessities provided (hot water working fine). Pool also in tip top shape for swimming as it appears to be cleaned daily. Great service, friendly staff and management were indeed helpful with all my enquiries. Definitely had a positive experience during my visit and looking forward to my next stay!

Located right near the beautiful harbor. Beautiful panoramic scenery when your room is facing the clear blue ocean. Splendid service good food. When you decide to visit Neiafu, Tonga this beautiful hotel is a must for your vacation. Take a boat ride that they offer and explore the utopian like scenery of the harbor and coastal area. The owners are young and down to earth people. Had a chat with them during my stay @ the Pua and I will definitely come back to stay here on my next business/vacation trip.

The was a business trip where I learned about the Tonga time concept. It was supposed to be a 1 day trip from the main island qitg the morning flight in and the afternoon flight back. However, our flight was cancelled. So, that required rebooking and an overnight stay. We took a locals recommendation and walked into the Puataukanave Intl Hotel. They had rooms available. Had to pay in cash as credit card machine did not operate, thus requiring a walk in the rain to the ATM machine. The hotel ladies offered a ride. Back at the counter our room rates fluctuated from 50% off to full price. We paid full price, but they "upgraded" us.

Overall, it was not great, but a required stay. The hotel needs a lot of little infrastruture. Room was clean with exceptuon of dead cockroach being carried off by ants. Hot water was non-exsistent. Beer and other drink were expired in the minibar like fridge. Shower was nearly falling off the rollong rack. TV had only 3 channels, one played a constant reply of the same movie. Internet was not even an option. Air conditioner really did not cool the room. Telephone did not operate, however kinda overtaken by technology. Door locks are poor and can easily be overcome, thus room could easily broken into for theft.

Good things, it was available. Probably average by local standards. Exceptionally large bed. It took me six times rolling over to cross the entire bed. Clean bed and sheets. Great view of the bay.

It was really raining. Perhaps some investment on providing better overhangs as going up the steps the overhang is short and you get dripped on the whole time.

Overall, we stayed out of need. Arrived unannounced. Took what we could get. Needs some updates.

Thank you for your review, note the hotel facility is 3-star. We will work to improve our services in the hotel in the future. With current market demand in Vava'u all the operators are battling to sustain business and future growth.

The phone and internet system in the hotel is being down since Hurricane Ian cause by water damages to our main switch board.

I stayed at the "Pua" for a couple of nights last week (1st week Nov2013). When I travel to Vava'u, this is my "go to" hotel. My room was large, clean and well appointed and the view from it was breathtaking! I was on business on this trip, so the location in town was perfect, although when you enter the hotel complex, you are immediately away from town and on the seafront of the beautiful Port of Refuge.
The bed was fantastic - comfortable and large. The bathroom was clean, well appointed with towels and I loved the shower!
The poolside bar is where I found my best meal in Vava'u on this trip!
Staff at the hotel were friendly and eager to assist albeit a little slowly at times - but then again, you don't go to Vava'u to stay in the rat race - regardless of whether you are there for business or leisure.
The Pua is the largest hotel in Vava'u, but that doesn't mean they lose the personal touch!

Room Tip: The Pua offers a range of rooms from backpacker to luxury - choose your room type when you book and...

In September 2013 my friend and I had an overnight stay at Puataukanave International Hotel right in the heart of Vava'u's capital town of Neiafu. We cannot fault the room which had very comfortable beds, the amazing view of the harbour from our balcony, the hotel's restaurant food or the friendly and helpful hotel staff who made our short but important stay really special. The manager even arranged a taxi/tour guide for the day at a very reasonable price so we could see the main attractions. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer on this trip but will definitely return to the Puataukanave International Hotel again on our next visit to Tonga. airport transfers were also offered. :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new wing. :)
