I had the opportunity to spend three days out on the water with Craig, and was very impressed with his operation. After spending a week in Vava'u and going out on whale watch boats there, the experience in Ha'apai was very different. We did not see any other whale watch boats the entire time we were on the water in Ha'apai. Craig is very good about making sure that the whales are open to interaction. If the whales give any indication that they are not comfortable, he goes in search of another whale. And there are plenty of whales around Ha'apai! He was very patient, approaching the whales slowly, always trying to assure that anytime we got in the water we would have a good swim. We encountered multiple whales each of my three days on the water, and had good swims each day. The boat we were on was an inflatable, which allowed us to cover a lot of water very quickly when we saw a whale. It does not have on board restrooms, but does have a cover to keep you out of the sun. The ride was very good, and surprisingly smooth. I would recommend Ha'apai Whale and Sail for anyone who wants a good chance at having a humpback encounter done in a responsible manner.
