“Amazing place to visit”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

We stayed at fins n flukes for 10 days with a group of 8 people. It was an amazing place to stay and so much quieter than going to Va'vau. I almost don't want to recommend them as Ha'apai might get too crowded. But that said, we had a wonderful time swimming with the whales, diving and relaxing in hammocks at fins n flukes. Brian and Sabine are very knowledgeable and respectful of whales. They were also sociable and happy to have a chat in the evenings. They also have a friendly dog (and puppy Mojo) around if you're missing your own pet! Their dive instructors, Kate and Tom were also excellent and gave excellent dive briefings. Overall they run a highly organised operation!

The rooms are comfortable and it was nice to have our own bathroom in the double room. The water is cold in the rooms but there is one hot shower in the main building if you really need one. There is nice snorkelling right in front of fins and flukes and plenty of areas to explore along the beach or by bike. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to town (along the road or along the beach at low tide).

I can highly recommend fins n flukes and will definitely be coming back here. I would suggest you stay at least a week so you can fit in at least 4 days swimming with the whales, trust me......after a day in the water with them, you will definitely want more!

We are on an around-the-world trip for one year and having an amazing time. Well the week with Brian and Sabine was really very very special and was definitely - until now - one of the highligts, Big fun, great little clean bungalows, fantastic place really. They know so much about the whales, and are so respectful and so enthusiastic. We simply loved it and go very often their page to check what is happenening. Swimming with whales is just... stunning!

“Best in Ha'apai!”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

An once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with these peaceful and majestic mammals! Brian and Sabine’s experience, enthusiasm, and respect for humpbacks are all unsurpassed. From comparing our experiences whale swimming with other guests staying at our resort, it is clear we made the right choice when selecting Fins and Flukes.

We spent five days whale swimming with them, and each day brought a very different type of encounter from swimming alongside curious moms and calves to observing a more aggressive heat rush safely from the boat. A hard-working duo always willing to extend the day looking for whales to make their guests happy, Brian and Sabine deeply respect their interaction with the whales. Four of us were allowed to enter the water only after carefully studying the whales’ behavior, and Brian/Sabine made sure that the whales had one and half hours reprieve after interacting with us.

Rarely did we even see another boat, and we never had to queue up, as we have heard is the case in Va’vau. Brian and Sabine always asked before taking their own cameras into the water and they created a very relaxed environment where the whales would be approached gently and without fanfare. Lunch on the boat is delicious and quite “fancy” with a cloth tablecloth and delectable salads. We also went scuba diving with Fins and Flukes, and this experience was equally A+ with a top-notch crew, a small group of divers, the ability to dive our own profiles and a focus on pointing out diverse critters. We can ‘t wait to return!

“A Truly Magical Experience”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

Swimming with humpback whales was an incredible, magical, awesome experience. Made all the better by Brian's obvious knowledge about, and respect for, these awe-inspiring creatures. The whale swimming trips were small & excellently managed, well equipped, safe & fun, giving all members of the group fair & equal chances to swim with the whales.
The accommodation was simple but spotless & both Brian & Sabine went out of their way to be hospitable & helpful.
I would thoroughly recommend these guys to everyone. And I hope to return soon to sample some of their diving delights!

“Swimming with whale with Fins 'n' Flukes- Wow!!!”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

We have just finished spending a week with Brian, Sabine & Fin 'n' Flukes. And to sum it up in one word AMAZING!!! We had booked two days with the whales just incase the whales weren't keen & were blessed on both days with some incredible experiences that we will never forget & that words cant describe!!! Brian & Sabine are wonderful hosts, they are very friendly, knowledgable & we had a lot of laughter around the tables at night. Catilyn & Tom were great on our diving & snorkelling trips, friendly, very encouraging & happy to point out animals of interest during the dives. The accommodation is clean & tidy, with a 15 minute walk into town or a 30 second walk to the gorgeous beachfront, where you can watch the incredible sunsets from your hammock. The meals made by Daniel, the awesome cook were delicious. It is going to be a very hard holiday to beat & maybe the only way, is a return trip to Ha'apai & Fins 'n' Flukes next year.
