“Some of the best snorkelling around Tongatapu”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

This is a beautiful sandy beach with wonderful snorkelling by Tongatapu/Fafa/Atata standards. We were here in April 2014 and found all those places didnt have very good visibility but out of them Ha'atafu had the warmest water - around Atata was quite cold, and also the best thing about Ha'atafu is that you can get away to it even if you only have half a day and a few dollars by jumping on the public bus which in busy times takes up to an hour but otherwise can take 20-30 minutes and costs 2 paanga! there's a friendly expat-run cafe once you get off the bus and walk up the turn off!
We saw Lion fish, Goat fish, Baby moray eel, lots of nemo fish, puffer fish and all the other usual suspects.

“Safe and amazing snorkelling”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

A great place for those new (or experienced) to snorkelling, as long as you go 3 hours either side of high tide. While large areas of coral have died (due to being sunburnt/low water levels), the marine life is colourful and abundant.

“Paradise”

Ha'atafu is a beautiful white sand beach, the snorkelling is always great on the reef there are hundreds of fish, but be careful at low tide as you will most likely get washed onto the rocks :)

“Best at high tide, bring your reef shoes”
Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

We stayed on Ha'atafu beach for 5 nights and found it to be a picturesque beach though the coral washed on shore made it a little hard going on our feet and the coarse sand makes walks on the beach a bit harder as you sink in to your ankles at each step. Low tide means wading around up to your knees over old coral (reef shoes are ideal) but high tide brings in some lovely fish at depths easier to snorkel in. The best beach and snorkeling we found was on our day trip to Atata Island, though we didn't visit every beach on Tongatapu.
