Fish everywhere and really safe for the family, you have to be there either 3 hours of high tide, but there are always fish to see and its not crowded at all

“Best at high tide, bring your reef shoes”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

We stayed on Ha'atafu beach for 5 nights and found it to be a picturesque beach though the coral washed on shore made it a little hard going on our feet and the coarse sand makes walks on the beach a bit harder as you sink in to your ankles at each step. Low tide means wading around up to your knees over old coral (reef shoes are ideal) but high tide brings in some lovely fish at depths easier to snorkel in. The best beach and snorkeling we found was on our day trip to Atata Island, though we didn't visit every beach on Tongatapu.

“Great place for snorkelling”

We spent a wonderful day with a group of NZ school students at this beach. The snorkelling was great and the kids had a wonderful day.

“Ha'atafu Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

Loved staying by this beach, it was picturesque and the reef made it very safe for snorkeling. Unfortunately most of the coral is dead but the varieties and numbers of fish and were absolutely amazing. I have snorkeled in many places, this was one of the best fish life I've seen. Water was lovely and clear, also nice temperature. At the right time of year you can see the hump back whales with their calves going past, easy to see as not far from the shore and amazing to watch. I'd definitely love to go back here and wouldn't stay any where else in Tongatapu.

“Good fur surfing, snorkelling and swimming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

The surfers say it is the best break on Tongatapu and the reef is only a short paddle out from the shore. The snorkelling is not world class but there are enough reef fish to make it interesting. The beach is beautiful white sand and close to shore you can swim over a sandy bottom as well.
