the blow holes are a must see, the sight and sound of them as they move along the whole of the coast line is truly amazing.

Though blowholes are present in Hawaii and several other islands, the ones in Tonga run along the coast for several kilometres and watching as the wave front activates the blow holes in sequence is fascinating. The quality of the experience depends on the sea conditions. If the waves are too small the display is not very interesting and if too high, everything gets covered by spray. But when waves are coming in at the right level, the manu fountains that spurt up from the coral at the edge of the sea are spectacular. The sounds associated with the blow holes are not what you expect at a beach either. Definitely worth a visit if you are on Tongatapu. The site is not built up though there is one area where there is a concrete viewing deck with rail around it for safety and it is accessible directly by car. But most of the expanse is not difficult to access on foot and there is no danger so long as one does not climb down to the level of the blowholes themselves.

You can ride here on a bike from anywhere on the island pretty much. the island is really flat so no effort required - can be tiring in the heat, but you will make it :)

Really worth doing. make sure there is a swell and take a camera. We got the best pics. Give yourselves time to enjoy. Keep and eye out for whales

The blow holes were definitely worth the 3 hour round trip bike ride from Heilala. We didn't check the tides but were really lucky that we timed our visit with near full tide and a good swell. Apparently low tide is not as good.
