One of the major tourist attractions of the Salar de Uyuni. It is located 3 km outside of Uyuni town. The trains were mostly used by the mining companies. As industry collapsed in the 1940s, many trains were abandoned here. The trains have been baked in the sunny air making phenomena of rust and salt.

I came from San Pedro De Atacama so it was a bit of a shock coming into Uyuni and seeing the amount of rubbish lying around...and that is the thought I took away from this place. Easier to call it an attraction than to clean it up and make it more worthwhile as a destination

trains lying in the middle of nowhere, swings attached here and there..you can climb on the trains, play with the light..
it's like a playground for adults, where you can also take amazing pictures.

Given all that Uyuni has to offer, which is basically nothing after the salt flats, a visit to the train cemetary is a really good way to kill some time while waiting for your connection out of there. It's free, a bit of fun with the swings and seesaws and pretty interesting for any photographers.

it's something how it should be
to the beginning of the trip, to get into the desert
quick visit
get used to see the mountains around... they will follow you for the rest of the trip
