We arranged the 3-day-Salar de Uyuni tour with Uyuni tours while we were in La Paz; and have been told by the sales person (Daniel) that we'd be greeted at the bus parade by one of their personnel (Antonia). Our bus was supposed to arrive at Uyuni around 6-7 a.m (they say you never know the exact time, since it depends on the amount of rain..ok.)
Well, we stepped off the bus around 6 a.m at Uyuni and started to wait for Antonia. She arrived at 6:45 which we did not bother at all. Still, it was not the best thing to be waiting for 45 minutes in the middle of nowhere in very cold weather.
Anyway, she apologized and said that she was told that we'd be arriving at 7 am, so she actually was early according to that plan. Fine..
Then we went to the office to make the payment. Here's where the story starts:
By the time we were there, roads were blocked around Laguna Verde, and thus the border crossing to San Pedro de Atacama was closed. Since we wanted to continue to Chile, Daniel told us that we could cross from Avaroa (the other Bolivian-Chilean border) to Ollagüe, and onwards to Calama; and this was included in the price we agreed on. However, Antonia said that we had to pay 350 bolivianos more per person in order to be able to cross to Calama. We showed her the confirmation mail we received and she didn't bother. Wanted to talk to Daniel or her manager; she said they were busy. Then as we tried to explained that we agreed on everything with Daniel, and she couldn't ask for more (700 bolivianos is around 100 dollars in the mean time), she said that we could get out and try the other agencies if we didn't want to pay more..(naively, we thought that there could have been a miscommunication problem, however, me and my husband are both Spanish speakers, and sure that there was no problem about the language, since everything was clearly stated on the email)
Then, not even apologizing for the inconvenience, she almost kicked us out of the office!
It's not the price or anything, but the attitude and dishonesty of these guys that made me so mad.
So, there we were, standing in the middle of the road at 7 am in the morning, feeling disappointed and mistreated,..We were so lucky that we found a cheerful lady at Olivos tours, with whom we made the tour.
Furthermore, I wrote to Daniel about this when i found internet connection, and he said "it was not his company and so he did not feel sorry or anything about what happened"...Such a great way to treat customers!
To summarize, NEVER EVER use this company. So unprofessional, so rude, so dishonest they are!

A friend and me decided to climb the uturuncu 6024m and as we did not have a lot of time we contracted the tour with Uyuni Tours quite expensive, we knew that but due to the lack of time we took it. Well, the car broke the first day and we lost 1 day of visited places, while we were with the car broken some other companies passed through and tried to help, all of them were saying how can you go like this to our driver, we are native speakers, so we were as well amazed of the irresponsability of this company seeing the other companies always with 2 staff members and not only 1 as ours, and much more prepared. Uyuni tours is not professional enough, when we arrived we ask for the manger, he refused to meet or talk to us and send one employee to say that noone put us a gun in the head when we bought it, uauuu, I have been in 80 countries and when something go wrong noone declined it responsability.
Of course some people have good experience with them, but it was not our case and not face their responsability is something I can not accept,
well if someone still want to go for them good luck, but you are warned, old car with many reparations, evrybody knows in Uyuni

Might be that Uyuni tours is offering good and save tours. But if there are not enough people to fill a jeep, they just put you in a jeep of a cheaper company without informing you in advance and without refund. And they do it even if they promised not to do so! In our case we payed 1050 Bolivianos. The others in the same car just payed 700 Bolivianos! For exactly the same tour. And the owner of Uyuni tours told the others not to talk with us about the price they payed...

The other company was EMPEXA and the driver was EDWIN. Edwin is a good and save driver. But he does not even know how the salt came into the salar of Uyuni!!! He is no guide at all, never talks and he is boring...

October 2012 we wanted to visit the salted desert and the various lagunas in Bolivia. The choice of a serious agency to take us was properly solved by selecting Uyuni Tours. Our spanish speaking guide, Sipriano, was always on time and on spot. The car was in good conditions and the 5 days tour went out with no problem whatsoever. I think I was quite lucky to meet this agency and its personnel.

Make sure you're calling the agency and NOT the domicile number (who is an freelance agent). Booking with a 1,2 or 3 day trip with Uyuni Tours will garantee a good jeep and nice spannish speaking guide with correct accomodation and meals. We had a great experience on the 3 days trip.
However, I called the "domicile" number to book another trip to tunupa and the girl book a 1 day trip instead of the volcano climbing as she could not find enough people to go with us. Therefore we drove 1 day through all the attraction we´d already seen to spend 10 mins to the volcano. Aweful trip... They did not even give us a discount. A shame.
