Great place, clean, huge beds. But if you reserve there, do not hesitate to call them directly by phone: I had reserved for 2 nights, but they made a mistake for one of those nights, and since they were full, We had to move to another hotel (with the help oh the team of mambo aymara)

We stayed in this hotel for two nights and from what we could see this was definately the best in town. The hotel had a nice hacienda feel to it. The room was clean and no mould in the shower room! The breakfast was somewhat basic but adiquate. I think we did have a visit from a mouse during the night, I didn't see it but I could hear it but I guess you do have to expect that in this part of the world.

We arrived at the hotel at about 2.30 in the morning following a 7 hour train journey from Oruro. The staff were excellent and got us to our room very quickly which was much appreciated. The room was warm, bed massive and bedding very warm. The breakfast room was quite cold and breakfast very basic. Tea and coffee went cold quickly. There is a nice little court yard but unfortunately the door was locked. Overall, the hotel is fine and better than expected.

The Tambo Aymara hotel is almost na Oasis in the small town of Uyuni. Me and my boyfriend went to a 3 day excursion into the Salar de Uyuni. Before and after the trip we stayed at this hotel. The rooms were very comfortable; they had TV and hot water. The breakfast was very good also. I recommend it because I don’t believe you can find good options in Uyuni. But their restaurant doesn’t work for lunch nor dinner, only for breakfast. The telephone only calls inside of Uyuni and there is no Business center at the hotel.

The hotel was clean, pleasant and was like an oasis from the grimness of Uyuni. We arrived to the hotel after making a booking a couple of days previously, but our reservation was not accounted for. However, they managed to give us the double room we asked for and confirmed the price in Bolivianos and $US. It seemed they gave us the larger double room to make up for the confusion, which we thought was nice of the staff. The staff we dealt with up until this point were very helpful and even arranged our laundry for us.

The problems started when we went to check out. A different and unfriendly lady was at reception, who ignored us when we approached to check out. We stood there for a few minutes before she acknowledged us, then said we couldnt pay in $US. After much discussion, we suddenly could pay in $US but the price would be $60 and not $51, as was confirmed. She said the currency was weak so we had to pay more. But we argued saying that there was a price list which was showed to us and clearly stated $5. She told us the list was old. Why would you show a price list to customers that was outdated? It's misleading and dishonest. In addition, we had to pay extra because we were placed in the superior double room, which we didnt ask for. There were plenty of other rooms available so it was clear that they put us in the larger room to charge us more money. We were furious at this stage and made her call the manager. It seemed like the staff were trying to earn extra money for themselves by overcharging the customers. I did hear that this is common in many hotels in Uyuni. It took us 30 mins to checkout, which was outrageous and we had a tour booked which we were nearly late for.

I did write a complaint to the manager based in Sucre afterwards, who was apologetic and genuinely shocked that she had unscrupulous staff working for her. We found out that the manager had told the lady at reception on the phone at the time of checkout to charge us $50US, which not surprisingly was never conveyed to us. I am pleased to hear that this matter will be deal with because this is a great hotel to stay in.
