Fantastic drive through a red rock gorge on ruta 68 to or from Cafayate from Salta. It's a must do and it's worth stopping at the Antifeatro and La Garganta del Dialblo which are free and interesting geological formations.

“A geologist's dream”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

As geologists we found it excellent and extremely beautiful! The was so much to see and definitely requires a tour or exploration if you have a car. Driving through is not enough to do it justice!

“awe inspiring!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

visited in august 2011. the drive down from salta to cafayate through valles calchaquies is not to be missed! the rock formations jutting out of the earth are incredible. i felt like we were on another planet and for large sections of the drive we had the whole place to ourselves-such divine majesty. parts of the road are rough but we did it all in a crappy rental car and you can, too! our drive back to salta was via quebrada de cafayate which was also amazing but a tad more traveled and thus more touristy.

The scenery in this region is "gob-smacking"... You are often just left speechless at the magnificent, tortured mountainscapes.
