Chato's is great. We've done a few tastings in Argentina and Chile and this was the most fun. Chato has a great selection of wine and knows his stuff. No poor wines on sale and if you ask nicely you may get to try his own Malbec which is not on general sale. He tailored the tasting to our requests and sprung a few pleasant surprises too. The bar is lovingly decorated and a shrine to vino. The background music was just right and both my wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. It was worth every penny and he stocks all the local bodega's products meaning you haven't got to sort through all the chaff! I just wish the malbec was for sale...

Gem of a place. Owner has excellent English & a wealth of knowledge of wine. The wine menu explains each bottles aging process & blend. Would highly recommend!

Chato really contributed to our overall amazing experience in Cafayate. We read in our guidebook that this place would be a good pre-dinner spot... That's definitely true.

Chato is tapping into a different market in Cafayate- he is serving wines by the glass, which is rare. It seems pricier than other places in Cafayate, but in reality, his prices are just similar to an affordable wine tasting in the US. He really does know his wines, can speak English, and loves what he does.

My boyfriend and I both speak decent Spanish, but Chato explained the wine in English which, for us, was really helpful. There are so many words we didn't quite get in Spanish...so it was great to hear about their wines and the history in English.

Chato is from Cafayate, only left for a year for school, and came back to open this business.... We really could feel how much Chato cared about his wine bar and his unique business idea.

Aside from absolutely loving Chato, we each had a 5 glass tasting. One of our flights was paired with Chocolate... some of the best chocolate I've ever had. The glasses were generous, and we stayed for an extra of Chato's own Malbec (which is delicious)

If you go to Cafayate and want to support a truly local business - please visit Chato and learn about wine! You will absolutely not be disappointed.

Chato's Wine Bar is dripping with class, ambiance and warmth. It is definitely the best pre-dinner spot you'll find in Cafayate, and probably in Argentina!

Chato´s wine bar is the perfect place to spend an evening tasting a variety of good wines. Oscar, the owner, definitely knows his wines. He went out of his way to explain us all about the wineries, their tastes, and all else we were interested to know. They also have various nice picadas to accompany the wines (e.g. we had the picada "Torrontes"). Absolutely recommend it!

We highly recommend this fantastic wine bar, moments off the main square. Snr. Cruz is a charming host and that's reason enough to spend a pleasant evening at Chato's. But the real point of Chato's is the brilliant selection of regional wines to enjoy by the glass or bottle. It's the only place you can do a proper tasting comparison and Snr. Cruz is an excellent guide, on hand with friendly advice and information. His knowledge is remarkable and really enhances the experience. The food is simple but good and well presented - just right to compliment the wines. Our tip is to tell Snr. Cruz what you like and let him select a range of Salta's finest for you to try. We found the prices very reasonable. If we'd had more time in Cafayate we'd have returned for more great wine and good company. Karen & Andy, Richmond UK.
