This is a great little restaurant in the Buffalo River area -- with food so good it would stack up in a great urban setting. This place is always crowded with locals and tourists alike.

The menu is written on a chalkboard inside what once was the Low Gap General Store. They have live music on weekends, and when its cold, a great little wood stove to keep the place warm.

The menu is diverse -- with many pastas, steak, salmon, scallops, burgers, etc. What many people don't know is that Nick (the chef) specializes in sauces -- so he has a few things that are fairly unique including a Balsalmic Chicken dish with a Balsalmic sauce that is unlike anything we've ever had. The catfish, and pan-fried chicken fried steak are also favorites of ours, as is the shrimp carbonara. This is a great little place that looks like a "dive" on the outside, but like having dinner at a family gathering inside (assuming your family are great cooks).

One of my very favorite things to do in life is discover a great place to eat in a spot where it is least expected. The Low Gap Cafe now takes the #1 position in my small collection of this type of eatery-a wonderfully, surprising diamond in the rough. It's out of the way location (south edge of Buffalo National River) makes it hard to get there, but oh the reward for the persistent traveler; the entire experience of driving and eating there was great.
When you arrive, you will probably think that the old building looks nothing like a place that would serve great food...in fact, the faint of heart might question whether it is even safe...but don't stop: push through the doubt, reminding yourself there is a professionally trained chef in there who knows what he is doing (Nick Botini).
Once inside, you will be seated among an interesting mix of patrons: the locals-including cowboy hat/overall clad farmers and in our case, an older couple who appeared to be retired college professors-as well as some travelers such as a young family of eight and a couple of bikers enjoying the scenic drive through the mountains. There was live music from a local band playing an eclectic mix of classic rock, country, blue grass and an occasional gospel song.....actually, a very RICH ambience!!
The menu was written on a chalk board with prices which were good (16oz prime rib $18.99).
When the meal arrived, it was attractively presented and the meat was perfectly cooked. The seasoning for the beef, and even the steamed veggies was delicious. I honestly believe my wife and I said, "wow, this is GREAT" at least 10X during this meal! We spent the entire meal trying to figure out the various components of the seasoning.... this was as good as any prime rib I have ever eaten; better than 90%! The service was very friendly and quite fast.
They serve a lunch menu, but we were there after 5:00 for dinner. The place only has seating for 36, so call ahead for a table as you make the trip.

This is truly a 5-star, hidden in the rough experience. If you can make it happen-I highly recommend it!

Had both lunch and dinner at Low Gap Cafe on March 2nd, 2013. Friendliest people, both staff and Nick and Marie the owners! Good local country music on Saturday night. Nice young waitress from Harrison, Ar waited on us for lunch and she stopped by our table to thank us for returning in the evening. The young man who served us in the evening was very attentive. A busy place.
The food was excellent and served steaming hot.

Had a chicken and rice dish. Can't recall the name. Was pleasantly surprised to find sauteed zuchinni veggie mix under the rice. Sauce was delicious and chicken was super tender. My salad was a bit plain but dressing tasted like it was made from scratch. A bit pricey as others have said but very nice to get delicious food in this rugged, out of the way outdoor paradise. Tiny place so be prepared to wait if there's a crowd. Wood stove was going when we were there.
