Jacksonport State Park
More attraction details
Attraction details
Owner description: In the 1800s steamboats made Jacksonport a thriving river port. During the Civil War, the town was occupied by both Confederate and Union forces because of its crucial locale. Jacksonport became county seat in 1854, and constuction of a stately, two-story brick courthouse began in 1869. The town began to decline in the 1880s when bypassed by the railroad. The county seat was moved in 1891 to nearby Newport, and Jacksonport's stores, wharves and saloons soon vanished.Today, exhibits in the park's 1872 courthouse and programs by park interpreters share the story of this historic river port. Admission to the courthouse is free. The park offers 20 Class A campsites with water and electric hookups including 50 amp service at all sites, a swimming beach on the White River, standard pavilion, picnic sites, playground, and the Tunstall Riverwalk Trail to stroll alongside the river. The park is on Ark. 69 in Jacksonport (just three miles north of Newport).

“What a beautiful state park!”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

We visited Jacksonport to have our Arkansas Civil Way passports stamped. The grounds are beautiful, the exhibits in the Courthouse are very well done and organized (especially the kids area, lots of hands on), and the Civil War memorial is very nice. Make sure to drive through the remainder of the park to see the river. Additionally, Kimberly, who helped us around the Park, was a wonderful guide, we thoroughly enjoyed her tour.

“Great Park”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

We had our family reunion at the park. We rented the pavilion for the day. We had a lot of space, tables and 2 large grills. We all had a great time. The staff at the park was very helpful. Pavilion was right next to the bathrooms. Couldn't have asked for a better location.

“A bit of a disappointment”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

We went to the web site and looked forward to riding the paddle boat, however upon arrival found that it had sunk several years ago. The staff were great and we enjoyed the tour of the old courthouse.
