Norma Jeane's is a hospitable piece of Rhodesian history set in a glorious garden high on a slope overlooking the whole of Lake Kyle. The hotel and dining room cannot have changed much since the 1960s, and the verandah could be a film set for a movie about colonial times: a better place for a beer would be hard to find.
Accommodation is in chalets, many with their own verandahs and lovely views, furnished plainly but with taste, bathrooms clean, and comfortable beds - with real blankets! We ate well, slept beautifully, and hated to leave.
The whole place, in huge grounds, has a feeling of space and calm, and the gardens alone would be a reason for staying. We always end up there for a night en route to somewhere else, and regret moving on. This could be a destination in itself. Try to stay at least a couple of nights. And try to book direct with the hotel rather than with agencies. They take bookings over the phone.More
