Wifi is not free here. The reception and dining room area is pretty with old colonial furniture and feel. The gardens are really pretty and the lake is a nice short walk. The rooms however a full of spiders and filthy particularly the shared bathrooms had lots of mosquitoes and was dirty. Sunset and sunrise is pretty. Dinner and breakfast was nice, particularly breakfast.

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst in the area to check out Great Zimbabwe, Lake Kyle and the dam wall.

There are great views of the lake and beautiful landscaped gardens but the rooms are starting to look a little tired and could do with an update and the shower takes ages to heat up and has a very small shower rose. It was very cold and there is no a/c or electric blanket and we had to ask for hot water bottles.

The food choices are basic but tasty, but I felt like I was putting them out by asking for my special meal requests (Banting) as the waiter was rolling his eyes!

Wifi is not free - $5 for 100mb and ran out within 10 mins.

If I could find something close by that had better reviews, I would try there next time.

This weekend I spent two nights at Norma Jeane's in Masvingo. Our chalet was clean and wonderfully comfortable. The rooms are well sized, with good ablutions overlooking absolutely beautiful gardens teeming with a variety of wonderful indigenous birds. The view over Lake Mtilikwe from some of the rooms, the verandah, dining hall and gardens is spectacular. I sat and watched the sun rise over the lake from a bench in the garden with fantastic views over the lake.

Service is excellent, and the food we ate both nights was delicious, with a choice of two different main courses in the four course dinner. My husband is a bass fisherman, and he had excellent packed lunches for his day on the lake. For our early morning drive back to Harare we had an excellent packed breakfast for the road - hard boiled egg, sandwiches, banana and yoghurt.

Norma Jeane's is conveniently located for several of Masvingo's best tourist sites. Great Zimbabwe's ruins are just down the road, as is the dam wall, St Andrew's Chapel (smallest church in Zimbabwe), some interesting rock paintings and an abandoned rural village (Chisango), which is well worth visiting for photographers.

Should one prefer to self-cater this option is available in all rooms.

I cannot recommend Norma Jeane's highly enough for anyone visiting Masvingo. Once you've stayed there you will feel part of the family, and returning there feels like going home.

Room tip: There are lodges suitable for small groups, double rooms for couples with ensuite ablutions and a few rooms with shared ablutions.

We stopped here for a couple of nights during a road trip around Zimbabwe. There were five of us and we had neighbouring cottages. The grounds are beautiful, with stunning views over Lake Mutirikwe.
Meals are taken in the main dining room, part of the wonderful original estate house with colourful flowerbeds and bushes surrounding it.
Although it was busy for our first night, we were told that business could be better - let's hope more people come to enjoy the great hospitality.

Got to this place by mistake and what a pleasant surprise. Situated on an uphill location, this place gives absolute fantastic views of Lake Mutirikwi. The famous islands are noticeable from the deck. Big and clear signage along MacDougall drive takes you to the place with ease.
