“Breathtaking views”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

The rooms at Dar Said were unique and lovely, the service commendable, and the scent of jasmine in the cool evening intoxicating. But what makes staying at Dar Said so memorable is the awe-inspiring view. Perched high on the cliff above the charming blue and white buildings of Sidi Bou Said, the location is unmatched. We loved spending our last night in Tunisia at this exquisite hotel.

I stayed at Hotel Dar Said with a friend, while visiting my son who is working in Tunis. My daughter and her boyfriend were also there for some of the time with us. My friend and I shared a twin room, which we found to be very comfortable, attractive and spacious, with everything we needed. Although it didn't have a sea view, we didn't mind as we didn't plan to spend too much time in our room.

The building is delightful - very pretty with lovely little courtyards dotted around, which are all very charming and lovely to sit in. Although the pool isn't very large, it was perfectly adequate and is a very attractive area, where breakfast is also served. The gardens are gorgeous, with lots of sun-beds and deckchairs and the most amazing view of the Bay of Tunis.

We found our stay at Hotel Dar Said to be very relaxing; the service was good and I can honestly say that I had no complaints. I would definitely return and recommend it to others without hesitation.

The town of Sidi Bou Said is also charming, with its delightful blue and white architecture, street sellers and enough places to eat. I was very sad to leave after spending a great 5 days there and using it as a base to visit lots of other interesting sites nearby, such as Carthage and Tunis.

It was a great trip and the weather was absolutely perfect too!

Stayed at this nice and friendly place during a business trip and loved it. It's located in the middle of the lovely town of Sidi Bou Said. Rooms are charming and spacious, well equipped though slightly in need of renovation. There's a pool we didn't use because weather was not so good but which has a nice view over the bay of Tunis and Carthage. The house is luxurious and quite beautiful.
Staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast correct (french style) and my colleagues liked the spa (I didn't use it). WiFi was slightly unrealiable but worked most of the time.

As many have said before, this is a nice property with loads of character in a beautiful location. However, the price vis a' vis the service, attention to detail and so on, just doesn't match. The rooms are spacious and clean, but the details are where things start to unravel. There is paint on the glass doors, chipped plaster in corners, wet towels from the hammam left in the courtyard (for days, not a short while), indifferent service, and so on. The site is lovely, the view from the terrace is stunning and the restaurant, Dar Zarrouk, is fabulous with stunning views. So, yes, you will get all that. Just expect to pay dearly for that. It's a three star, not a four star property. We had a reservation at this property for two more days at the end of our trip. We cancelled them.

This place is just absolutely gorgeous - a little haven in the middle of what can be quite a busy little village. Everyone was extrememly helpful and you feel really relaxed and at home in this place. Every corner is as beutiful as the next, the garden is big anough to lounge around in with beautiful views over the gulf of Tunis and filled with flowers and orange trees. Breakfast is around the swimming pool in the mornings and i am sure, even if the place is full, you will find a peaceful corner just for you. The rooms are vast and have everything you need with great bathroom. Also this hotel is in the middle of everything in Sidi Bou Said and just accross the street is a great restaurant, looks very smart, but the prices of wine and food were really good. The restaurant also has a huge courtyard with easy chairs if you want to get away from the busy streeets.

Room Tip: We were in the cheapest rooms and it was excellent, so i can only imagine what the other rooms must...

Dar Said has been well converted into a small hotel. The building has a lot of character and interesting architectural features. The view from the terrace, both of the sea and the rest of the town, is marvellous. The service is polite and attentive.

We had one of the cheapest rooms. It was a great deal less luxurious that the ones shown in the photographs on this site. So it only had a window opening on the internal courtyard. The room was of adequate size. In addition to the beds is had a writing desk or dressing table and a small sofa. The baggage rest was damaged and looked likely to collapse soon. There was insufficient storage space for two people staying for five nights. The beds were not very comfortable. The bedding was clean and warm enough. The heating kept the room warm despite temperature outside below 5ºC.

The bathroom was small and the towels were serviceable but had made too many trips to the laundry to be truly comfortable. Towelling bathrobes were provided. One morning there was no hot water. No explanation or apology was forthcoming and I gained the impression that this state of affairs was not a surprise.

There seemed to be a certain lack of assiduous maintenance. For example the door to our room could be locked was would not stay closed on the latch.

The breakfast was good, with fresh fruit, yogurt and a soft-boiled egg in addition to the standard continental fare. The coffee was weak and did not impress.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. This is a good hotel; with a little more effort on the part of management and a comparatively small investment it could be really special.

Room Tip: There are a few rooms with a sea view overlooking the terrace.

Very charming small hotel. We enjoyed staying there especially because it was less crowded season. You should definitely try their hammam with massage. Extremely relaxing and they have use high quality savon noir.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a room facing to the sea on higher floor.
