Sea-View Zum Sperrgebiet
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Luderitz
Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

At first glance the hotel seems very welcome and friendly, but I would recommend anyone to rather go stay at the Bay View Hotel that is cheaper, but in every way much better.

The Protea rooms are sufficient to stay in, but I would prefer a gas station pie to anything on their extremely overpriced menu. Not only shall reception try to justify and argue any complaint you have, but the chef will also snicker behind your back whist you walk away after giving him your inedible plate food.

After my experience I shall try my best never to stay here again.

Nice hotel, although without any ambiance. Nice seaview from the room with a balcony . Could profit from some maintenance. Breakfast is way to simple for such a hotel. Free wifi in the lobby. Good for one night to visit Luderitz.

This hotel was probably the most disappointing accommodation of our trip to Namibia.
Hotel is fine and in a good location. It is fairly modern and clean with friendly and helpful staff.

What was really disappointing and let the hotel down was the food and menu. It was listed as having an ‚a la carte‘ restaurant, specialising in sea food…
Yes, they have a nice menu, but most of the items on the menu were not available, or resemble more fast food than proper meals, or did not arrive at the table as ordered.

We had gone out for dinner and upon our return to the hotel just after 11pm we found the doors locked and the reception area in darkness, so no staff after a certain time were available. We were basically locked out without notice, and only when we started hammering on the door, a security guard sitting outside on the fire escape awoke and was able to let us into the hotel through the fire escape on the first floor.

Would recommend not staying in Ludertiz on a Sunday as everything is closed on a Sunday, including restaurants, forcing visitors to eat in one of the hotels like Seaview.

Room Tip: Request sea view

Checked-in at an ungodly 1:30am, thanks to the Security guy Bonifais who had kindly checked me in as reception had left for the day. I shouldn't have been surprised for such a small town. He was friendly and very helpful, although he wasn't familiar with the procedures he tried his very best! Very commendable! :) And saved me from sleeping in the freezing streets!

Rooms had no heating nor air-conditioning, so it got pretty chilly during the nights. On my last morning, realized my balcony door could not be locked! And was there for 3 nights...! All that's said, i had my warmest shower in all my trip. The temperature was just perfect. The other hotels were either too tepid or too scalding hot and can't seem to get the right temperature.

It's located a little far away from the center of town, relatively speaking, because this is a really small town anyway, and a shortcut from the waterfront would be to use the flight of stairs next to Woermann House, so it's only minutes from the waterfront area.

Breakfast was just alright, and eggs, sausages and bacon cooked to order.

I expected better. We booked into a Protea hotel, expecting a basic good standard. We were not pleased.
The rooms are ok, they are clean but it was not special.
There was no shef, therefore no meals.

If possible, check into into another hotel.

This hotel could use a bit of paint and spit and poish, but the staff are really helpful, and the internet works well. I had a lovely room overlooking the ocean, where I could see the sun set over the South Atlantic. Since there is hardly anywhere else t oeat, it is a good thing that the food is good and the menu varied. Luderitz has no public transport, not even taxis. So it is important to call the hotel before you fly there, so that their driver can pick yu up from the airport.
This would be good place if yo uwanted to get away from it all. The tourist sites are only open a few hours a week. so you need to have something to do, like writing a book.

Room Tip: ask for a room with an ocean view

This hotel is past its sell by date! The loo flush didn't work and the food choice was so limited in the restaurant that I had to settle for my third choice - fish and chips - which were far from hot. The staff were indifferent and the service just happened with no effort. The restaurant overlooks the smallish swimming pool so the room seems quite humid. Although the bed was comfortable and she sheets clean, I cannot recommend this hotel at all!
