This was a sad house. Impractical and in the wrong place. German architecture might work in Germany but not inLuderitz. We felt as if we were interrupting the guide on her cell phone,

Unfortunately as with many attractions in Namibia there is very little information provided on the House other than an introductory talk by the lady collecting your (now NAD50 per adult and NAD30 per child) fee. For this entry fee one would expect some background literature and a better insight on the period during which it was constructed. Instead one is merely given permission to walk around the (impressive) dwelling with its "current" out of period decor. Children are charged from 4 years of age (or if they can understand!). I would give it a miss!

What a gorgeous mansion! Wish I could stay in it for a while.
The views from almost all rooms are endless over the sea.
The history is fascinating to read.

The mansion was built by a loving husband who wanted to bring his wife to Namibia. Unfortunately she was back in Germany within two years. Not very surprising as even today Luderitz has not much to offer in term of entertainment. Definitely worth the visit as there is a great view of the town.

I really overstayed in this house because it brought back so many memoiries of a similar house that I was living 10 in my own country, In every room of this house I wanted to stay and imagine how the people lived there years ago. The House keeper had the most beautifull view from her tiny little roofroom. Made me jealous of her and I would have liked to have that tiny room. Enjoy!!
