The lake in itself is beautiful and worth a visit, no doubt about it.
To enjoy the light on the turquoise water you have to visit early in the morning. It takes about half an hour to reach the lake, coming by car from Antsirabe. The volcano crater filled with slightly acid water, about 160m deep. It is possible to swimm but the water is quite cold.
The entry costs 1 Euro pro visitor.
Look out for countless children and adults following to sell stones or other useless items,, do not show the slightest interest if you don't want to get hasselt all the way long.
There is a possibility to drive further west on a quite bad dirt track to Betafo which is a beautifull place to visit as well.

We came here on a bicycle tour and it was worth every minute!

The water is such a beautiful colour and it's amazing to see the surrounding areas en route. I would definitely recommend it!

The landmark is superb, panoramic view and beautiful lake linked with fairytales. However hawkers might be annoying from time to time and make sure you take receipt when paying for entry as then it goes to village people...

It takes only about 2 hours (with the ride to/from, the road is rough - need an 4x4). The view is picturesque. The lake is not very big, but they say it is very deep. And the legend says nobody could ever cross it swimming. It in fact looks like a dead lake. The locals said there is no fish or other form of life in the lake. Google if you want a confirmation. We decided to believe them. You walk around the lake, some places the path is very steep, takes up to an hour. The locals charge visitors some 2,000 ariary per person entrance fee. There are some souvenir stands selling same standard staff, don't waste time on them.
