Hold the front page TripAdvisor...the restaurant at the Green Park needs its own site. Chez Jenny is an oasis of glorious food in a rather not so great town. Yesterday I had a pizza...not any old pizza but a large 'Sardarna' pizza with plenty of anchovies...may not seem a great thing but getting decent anchovies on your pizza in Mada is like winning life's jackpot. Hunt this place down and eat & enjoy, simple.

Good location in Antsirabe, the garden is lovely and overall for Madagascar it is reasonably priced. HOWEVER rooms are variable as others have noted - mosquito nets not present in all rooms, shower heads may lack a 'holder' so you need to hold the attachment, power to lights can be quite weak - candles are provided but you might want to make sure you have a good torch for late night reading. And yes - some of the mattresses really are quite bad. I ended up changing rooms as the mattress was so uncomfortable - and I am by no means a picky sleeper. So road test before you commit to a room.

Room Tip: Check the mattresses!

Spacious rooms/bungalows, the one we got was OK with a new mosquito net. Cleanliness desires to be better. Good location - a block away from the Cathedral and two blocks from the road turn to Morondava. The price was about $15 for the night which was nothing even in Madagascar for this type/class of accommodation. Of course the hotel is not for high-maintenance folks. The area is very green, with small ponds, so the name of the hotel is true. There is guarded parking in the hotel. Check in-out was quick and efficient. They also have a restaurant which looks very good - decor (Malagasy), view (garden), menu (good selection of dishes and even cocktails). Had coffee there only, but if in town next time plan to try it.

The rooms are of a varying standard, some with mosquito nets, some with bad mattresses so best to ask to see a few rooms. The ones close to the field at the back seemed to be the best. Also, the wifi is only accessible from said field. The showers are powerful but the hot water runs out quickly. The rooms are all located in the quiet gardens which have a pond. Breakfast is available in the attached restaurant but as in the rest of Madagascar, it's a piece of bread with some bad tea/coffee. There's a patisserie close by which does good croissants and you'll save a bit of money.

If you want to do a trip down the Tsiribihina river, to Tsingy or to anywhere else nearby, the touts will either meet you on arrival at the bus station or wait for you outside of the hotel. Make sure you agree the exact details of the trip and have every detail written in the contract. We used Coco who subcontracted to another guide called Eric, who was very good. However, times and costs were not adhered too and while the staff dined on fresh fish (that we paid for), we were given a tin of sardines one day. A bit cheeky!

Basic but clean and comfortable huts in a beautiful little water garden, down a quiet street just outside the centre of Antsirabe (only a few minutes walk away). Very reasonably priced.
The pizzeria/bar Chez Jenny is alongside and thoroughly recommended for pizzas and a cosy, relaxing atmosphere.

If you are looking for brand name luxury then this may not be the place for you. I think for the price, which puts it more in a back packer category, the place was awesome. The hotel is made up of several free standing rooms around a central pond water feature. The rooms themselves are not five star but aren't trying to be. They are however very good by Madagascan back packer standards with every thing you would need /expect. I thought the atmospohere was great and gioven I don't speak French the fact that some staff spoke English was a real advantage. The compound was also very secure and location was a moderate stroll or short pousse pousse ride from the centre of town. The town itself by the way was pretty cool with some great restaurants and a small market

Stayed here once because our friends were on a budget. Really basic rooms with really awful towels. But the gardens are pretty. Beware when you walk out the door the hawkers will pester you.
Restaurant next door 'Jennys' is ok
