“Good location, nice rooms”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

A nice little stay, this is located just out of the town of Perinet behind some rice paddies and overlooking the town.

Rooms are very nicely built, modern looking with a distinct tropical style. There is TV, though all channels are in French. Bed are comfortable. Privacy is good save for a window that is without a curtain near to the bathroom. The main negative I had is that the privacy outside is very low. While sitting outside during the day, there is a constant stream of people walking directly outside your room (rather than on the distant lower path). My wife felt unable to sit outside as there were constant interruptions and a lot of hotel staff hanging around the pool all day who stared every time she came outside. I am not sure why, but every day these ground staff gathered in the pool gazebo and sat there talking well into the night. Sadly they also did so from dawn and this meant we were unable to ever lie in, being woken up at 530 am every day by the shouting and animated conversations coming from the pool. I suggest that staff are asked to keep noise to a minimum until at least 0800 and consider going elsewhere to talk. Surely the pool is for guests? We felt unable to use it without being stared at/invading space being used by hotel staff.

Management and staff were friendly and helpful. Food seemed good and restaurant very nice. They were accommodating of our early start happily preparing breakfast at 530.

This hotel is not as well situated as Vakona Forest Lodge (which has an exquisite setting), but the restauarant is great. The service is friendly and attentive. Their is no air-conditioning, The shower in our room was terrible, no water pressure.

Room Tip: All the same

We stayed at the Andasibe Hotel for three nights at the recommendation of our tour operator as it is Malagasy-run. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, as others have said and had all the facilities you would expect, apart from a hairdryer, which would have been useful as the weather wasn't that hot. The rooms are up steep steps so could be an issue if you are not very agile. Good location, you can walk to the village and very close to the national park. We too heard the indri from the forest in the morning through the mist - beautiful. The hotel generally was very clean and well maintained and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The pool was a good size although we didn't go in. We were able to change money at reception, at a reasonable rate, useful when you realise you haven't changed enough at the airport to give the forest guide a good tip!
The food was reasonable, breakfast was continental with scrambled eggs/omelette but would have benefited from a bit more choice or perhaps a buffet. The only cereal when we were there was cornflakes but this may have been temporary.
We had a packed lunch one day which was good, if a little unusual, chicken or zebu, plus a jacket potato, samosas and a potato cake plus a tart for dessert.
The best dinner we found was the macaroni cheese - very filling especially when it wasn't that warm outside. The menu didn't change while we were there but we did try a few different things and all were tasty enough. The location is what gives this hotel 4 starts rather than the food but all in all, would recommend it as a base for a few days.

Nicely located near to areas for wildlife observation. The rooms are spacious and decently appointed with very good toilet and dressing areas. I know it's a small point but this facility has the best mosquito net system I've seen but in any case the mosquitoes were not very numerous. The beds are very comfortable with good bedside lighting. Showers are high quality. The food is good but not remarkable. Highly recommended.

Good spacious bungalows, ours overlooking the pool (which was a bit noisy at times in the afternoon; quieter bungalows on the other side of the dining room, overlooking the stream). Clean comfortable beds with mosquito nets. Tidy attractive gardens, large pond with decking above. Friendly staff, some flexibility in the table d'hotel menu. Wi-fi in the lobby.

Views across paddy fields to distant forest; you can hear the indri calling.10 mins walk to the local village, and very convenient for the National Park.

Room Tip: Quieter bungalows overlooking the stream, to the right of reception.

Having said that, the hotel does have something to offer.
It has clean rooms and a decent restaurant/bar.
Service is excellent, lobby wifi a bit glitchy to begin with but eventually worked ok.
Got my laundry done here, but it's not cheap.

This hotel is wonderfully located for lemur viewing. It is on the outskirts of a very interesting village and about a 10 minute drive from the main Park entrance. Although the hotel is rated 3* there were definitely some 4* touches. For instance, our room (Bungalow 1) was wonderful - huge, nicely decorated, with a large bed. There were some downsides - the all-singing, all-dancing shower kept breaking, the water in the taps was so hot that I properly scalded my hands (efficient solar panels!) and the lighting in the room was so gloomy that we couldn't read at night.
There was a lovely view from our door over the village paddy fields, and as others have noted you can hear the Indri calls from here.
The staff were mixed: some helpful and some very dopey and disinterested. We'd chosen this hotel over Vakona Lodge due to the good reviews for veggie food. However, it wasn't until our 3rd and final meal that a proactive waiter offered me something decent off-menu (veg curry and rice). Breakfast was one of the best we had in Madagascar and really sets you up for a day in the forest - fruit salad, papaya juice, croissants, toast, cornflakes and eggs.
We had a wonderful day in the Park and saw Indri, Bamboo Lemurs, Brown Lemurs and Diademed Sifakas as well as several chameleons, gekkos etc. Unless it's raining most people will get that kind of sighting in Sep/Oct/Nov so it really is a wonderful place to visit.
