“The Trip of One's Dreams”

I travelled to Camp Xakanaxa this past July and had the most exciting time of my life. The people who work at this camp are extraordinary in each and every way. The comfort and grace that they put into all that they do is extraordinary. The multiple areas where one can relax and simply enjoy the beauty are so comfy and exquisite. The food is out of this world! And my guide, Water, was the most incredible guide I could have ever hoped to have. My three night stay was not long enough for me. I will return and stay for a week! One is welcomed with such warmth and genuine caring.

Xakanaxa is a wonderful camp. It has a lot of traditions of old, which really appealed to our family. The game viewing was exceptional and the bush in this area is really very beautiful. The whole atmosphere, including the singing by the staff at the camp in the evening was a very special experience.

Myself and my wife when to Xakanaxa camp for our honeymoon. To be honest I would really struggle to find any fault with the whole experience we had. The staff were so welcoming and helped us with anything we needed. The food was excellent as were the facilities. On the last night they set up a private meal for us right next to the water which was truly special.
The game drives were excellent and our guide Conrad was very knowledgeable. Over the 4 days of safari (water and land) we saw absolutely everything and Conrad ensured we had the best possible experience.
You won't be disappointed with Xakanaxa, I would go back tomorrow if I could.

Pictures can not do justice to this beautiful safari camp in the bush. If you take one of the most beautiful bedrooms you can imagine, put it in a spotless wood floor tent that is attached it to an open air bathroom and put a large terrace in the front overlooking a serene river -- these are your sleeping accommodations. Just a minute walking distance down a winding path are other outbuildings - a large open air dining room (white table cloths and all) a serve yourself bar with anything you could want to drink along with very comfortable lounge chairs and sofas, pool area, gift shop and business center. The food here, mostly served buffet style, is down home African style cooking. The chefs here are very proud of their dishes and well they should be. Everything is fresh, well seasoned and perfectly prepared. One of the nights we were there was my husband's birthday and they served us a private dinner by candlelight and lanterns by the plunge pool along the river at sundown. They also proudly served a huge chocolate birthday cake made in their kitchen. Our guide, Water, (yes it is Water and not Walter) was so into his job. He made it his quest to find a leopard on the last day we were there. None of the guides had been able to find him and Water did. He was the hero of the day for us and for other visitors to the reserve. There were a couple of the servers in the dining room who could definitely smile more, but everyone else was really friendly and available. What a wonderful facility!!!

Our first experience at a tent safari camp and it was absolutely luxurious. Down comforters, spa bathroom, and gourmet food. The people couldn't have been nicer. Lots of animals, we even had a baby hippo and her mother walk right by our deck one evening. Beautiful facilities

What do you do when your Land Cruiser is broken, repair and replacement is hours away from Maun, your mobile safari camp is 20+ km away in the bush, and your guests have arrived in two Cessnas with no place stay? You call Camp Xakanaxa and they welcome your guests, literally, with open arms. Johan (sp.?) and Priscilla were excellent hosts and their staff made us feel at home. Although full, they were able to find two rooms to accommodate 6 wayward travelers. The tented rooms were quite comfortable with sounds of the reserve to lull you to sleep at night. The location of the camp along the delta provided a lasting first impression of the beauty of the reserve. What could have been a very bad day was turned into a very good day.

I wasn't prepared for just how luxurious the accommodation was. I loved the open-air bathroom area, such a wonderful experience to shower at night, looking at the stars. So much attention to detail and the staff were friendly and helpful. Food delicious and varied.
The guide we had was a bit 'gung-ho' - sometimes charging through the bush to locate animals that had been sighted - I had the sense we scared them away! (One of the draw-backs of going off-road!)
I spent three nights there and didn't want to leave.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Set in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as being one of the finest game viewing areas in Africa, Camp Xakanaxa has one of the best locations in Botswana. Accommodation is in twelve tastefully furnished tents with twin or double beds and en-suite facilities with shower, hand basin and w.c. The tents are situated on the edge of the lagoon and from their private viewing deck, with comfortable loungers, one looks onto the reed fringes at the waters edge. The camp, with its eclectic mix of furnishings from all over Africa, has a dining room, lounge/bar area, fire deck and plunge pool all slightly raised on wooden platforms with spectacular views over the lagoon. The reception area boasts a curio shop. At night the camp looks stunning as it is lit by dozens of paraffin lamps and candles. The game drives in this sector of Moremi take one down winding tracks, through Mopane forests and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicles or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where combined boat and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips explore the sinuous channels and floodplains of the Delta, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months when the migrants are breeding. To the north are the world famous heronries, which attract large numbers of breeding storks and herons. ... more   less
