We booked the stay with TRAVEL WILD and HELIKOPTER HORIZONS.
We can only recommend the very good service and guidence by both agencies.
We booked lacally and direct with above agencies.
The price was less than half what we have been offered, trying to book from Europe.
The Heli flight was great and well worth the little extra cost, flying over the Okavango at 150 to 200 m altitude is unforgetable, the pilot would not hesitate to make a turn and even fly lower, whenever we spotted wild life and wild life was there in great numbers!
The camp was excellent , friendly and professinal staff. Accomodation was perfect in clean well equiped spacious tents. Twice a day we were offered game drives or boat tours, and again we had the chance to see lots of wild life.
We stayed early April daytime temp 25 to 30° night time a pleasant 17 to 18°
Good food and nice dinners with free drinks.
The evenings by the wood fire were attended by the guides and really fantastic.
Whenever we can we will return.

Room Tip: Contact TRAVEL WILD & HELIKOPTER HORIZONS directly, both located in MAUN Botswana.

We spent 3 days at Xakanaxa Camp in Botswana. The tents are spacious, tastefully decorated and cooled by a sprinkler system that trickles over the roof during the heat of the day. The paraffin lamps at night bring an air of charm and harmony, once the sun goes down. The communal eating and lounge area is tastefully "African" in Decor and there is a fully stocked bar available throughout the day.The food plentiful, varied and good. We were there in the wet season and although we saw heaps of game - the game viewing was not ideal as the grass is very long. We did have the privelage of seeing a pack of 8 wild dogs - we followed and observed them at leisure - how special! Our hosts and the staff were all fantastic - friendly and helpful. Our driver/ guide - "Water" was a treat with a wealth of knowledge to share.
Highly recommended as one of your Safari destinations!

Dear travellerE13

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on your recent stay with us at Xakanaxa Camp. We are thrilled to see how you appreciated our camp for its true African bush camp character. You are correct in saying that the wet season is not as productive game viewing wise as other seasons, but we are delighted to see that you were still able to view a variety of wildlife and Wild dogs!! As you say, what a treat.

Water is an exceptional guide and we will make sure that your feedback is sent onto him. Once again, we thank you for taking the time to post your review and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Kind Regards,
The team at Xakanaxa Camp

This is a truly excellent Game/Safari Lodge, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was very good and the atmosphere superb. The Game drives were very good and we saw almost everything including Lions and a large male Leopard at only 3 metres distance, even though it was not reckoned to be the best month for game viewing due to the abundance of bush growth. We had a guide/ranger that really knew how to handle the Land Rover and took us everywhere.

Lette the manageress was an excellent host. Evening meals around a large dining table gave a very good opportunity to interact with other guests.

This is certainly a Safari/Game Lodge that my wife and I would recommend to anyone and hopefully we will re-visit

Xakanaxa is a relatively large camp by Botswana standards with 13 tents and by comparison to some of the private concession camps we have stayed at I found it a bit impersonal and more hotel-like with its absolutely fixed activity/meal times. The tents are lovely and spotlessly clean all overlooking the lagoon. Food was consistently good with plenty of choice. The whole camp looks stunning at nightime when it is illuminated by umpteen gas lanterns. Activities are restricted to game drives and boat trips as you are in the national park. The camp is also sandwiched between two other camps and close to campsites so it lacks a wilderness feel for me. Wildlife was pretty sparse during our stay and I was unimpressed with the knowledge of our guide. A good option for familes and larger groups but I wouldn't be rushing back. For the price I think there are better options.

Dear Grant E,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review on your stay with us at Xakanaxa Camp. We are pleased to see that you enjoyed our camp for its food, comfort and cleanliness and that you appreciated our authentic bush camp ambience at night. We have 12 tents at Xakanaxa Camp, the 13th tent is not used for guests but rather for guides or pilots who accompany many of our guests to the camp. We are located in the Moremi Game Reserve and that does impose very strict regulations on our activities. The great benefit however is the unsurpassed beauty of our location which includes ancient Mopane Forests, savannahs, floodplains and of course the Xakanaxa Lagoon and Khwai River. Whilst it is true that game viewing is not as productive during the summer season, the wonderful birdlife with migrants and the profusion of young animals is an experience to treasure for the African enthusiast. We are sorry that your wildlife viewing was sparse as we had guests in, just a few days after you left us, who where privileged enough to see mating leopards as well as wild dog.

We have noted your comments on your guide; at Xakanaxa Camp we pride ourselves in our employment of local management, guides and staff and our training is on ongoing process. Our guides have in fact just completed a vigorous training course with Veronica Roodt who is well known for producing maps and guide books for national parks, conservation areas, game reserves and regions of interest in Botswana. We know that our guides will take this newly acquired knowledge with them into the field in the future.

Thank you once again for your feedback and comments, they are greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
The Xakanaxa Camp Team

Xakanaka - what can i say paradise on earth. Somewhere where time stands still and you forget the rest of the world and all it's troubles. No phones, no TV, no radio, no newspapers. This was our second visit and we enjoyed it even more this time than we did last. Great game drives. Water is an amazing guide and a wonderful person. All of the team are super, Lettie, Timothy, Baams, Monthso, Water, and everyone else. Great at what they do.
Food fantastic - cakes to die for. The camp has a lovely, friendly atmosphere with plenty of time to chat and make new friends at mealtimes around the large dining table.

The staff is always willing to help, and share in your excitement of new discoveries.
The knowledge and small insights of the local area, which are shared with you only, add to the enjoyment of the trip.
Having such a wide range of game viewing activities help further enhance this fantastic camp.
To the staff and management, especially you Ollie, our guide, thank you for opening up to my family and I your beautiful country.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Set in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as being one of the finest game viewing areas in Africa, Camp Xakanaxa has one of the best locations in Botswana. Accommodation is in twelve tastefully furnished tents with twin or double beds and en-suite facilities with shower, hand basin and w.c. The tents are situated on the edge of the lagoon and from their private viewing deck, with comfortable loungers, one looks onto the reed fringes at the waters edge. The camp, with its eclectic mix of furnishings from all over Africa, has a dining room, lounge/bar area, fire deck and plunge pool all slightly raised on wooden platforms with spectacular views over the lagoon. The reception area boasts a curio shop. At night the camp looks stunning as it is lit by dozens of paraffin lamps and candles. The game drives in this sector of Moremi take one down winding tracks, through Mopane forests and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicles or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where combined boat and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips explore the sinuous channels and floodplains of the Delta, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months when the migrants are breeding. To the north are the world famous heronries, which attract large numbers of breeding storks and herons. ... more   less
