Review of Sable Alley
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 19, 2019
Beautiful camp. We were in the Honeymoon Tent, furthest down the boardwalk. A beautiful location with great views of the lagoon and animals. The main lodge has great seating for dining and watching the wildlife at the same time. Wide variety of food; excellent. The guides were very knowledgable and taught us a lot about the small details of the delta; water, geology, animals, and plants. They worked very hard to find us interesting animals and then we spent plenty of time just watching and photographing them.

We stayed at Sable Alley during early November and absolutely loved it! The staff was so incredibly welcoming and helped make our honeymoon special. They also went above and beyond to make sure my food allergy was carefully paid attention to.

The lodge itself is quite nice, with a spacious room and a nice central area for meals and lounging, including a pool. It lover looks a waterhole with quite a few resident hippos and was a busy area for game view- we saw elephants, zebras, baboons, and many more without even leaving the lodge!

The game viewing overall was spectacular- we saw tons of buffalo, hippos, giraffes, elephants, zebras, and different types of antelope. We also got to see lions, a leopard, and a pack of wild dogs (very special!). Our guide was great and helped make sure we saw tons of game. We would definitely recommend this lodge!

The location of the camp is fantastic. Opposite the water hole, you can watch hippos and elephants more less all day long.
I wouldn’t call it a very luxurious camp but certainly a very nice camp with absolutely impeccable service.
The friendliness of staff is outstanding and make this - together with the quality of the guides - the key highlight.
The guides, in particular Tony who was so patient and knowledgeable, but also Max and Zazou, are absolutely outstanding. They know what they are doing and will make your stay a unique experience.
The food is ok but we didn’t come with high expectations either. The high tea on the other is really nice and you will enjoy it.

Well equiped camp with good sized tents. Amazing location with direct view on a hippo-pool.

The food is good, the service too and most important, the private game reserve amazing with lots of animals. We had MD as our guide who did his job very well!

Be aware that this camp allows children which can be anoying in terms of noise. We had around 10 (very young) kids in one group and felt disturbed during lunch and dinner. Even in the tent we heard them good as we were neighbours. And the worst of worst was when they played soccer in the middle of the bush during a very nice sundowner aperitiv, offerd by the camp! Thats a shame and shouldnt be allowed.

Let us get the basics out of the way: Service, Food, Accommodations the grounds are all very nice and top notch. The safari rides are truly special and the guide we had (Tony) told so many interesting stories the rides just flew by. Lions and Leopards of course the highlights, but seeing a herd of elephants walking by only 20 feet from the Land Cruiser sure is special. The grounds are unspoiled and not crowded at all. They give you blankets and water bottles for your ride so you are always very comfortable.

The pool and common area are a great place to hang out and share stories with other guests that quickly turn into your friends. While a luxury resort this place maintains an aura of classic relaxed comfort.

Thanks to all to make our stay special

We traveled with two other couples and absolutely loved our time here. The landscape in the Khwai reserve is stunning and varied with swampy areas, wooded areas, and grassy plains. There is a very high population of elephants here and we never got tired of viewing them. They seem to be everywhere. Other wildlife here is also plentiful including wild dogs, leopards, hippos, hyenas, lions, ostrich, etc. The notables that we did not see here were rhinos and cheetahs. What I loved was the feeling of really being immersed in the bush. The time between the game drives was never boring. Each tent and the restaurant faces a large hippo pond that attracts many other animals as well. There were frequently elephants and baboons moving right between the tents as they made their way to and from the pond. And at night we could often hear hippos pulling up grass and elephants snapping branches all around our tent. The sounds are incredible and you really realize you are someplace different and amazing. It was a fantastic experience.
The lodge and grounds are beautiful with a nice fire pit seating area, great outdoor dining, large and very comfortable tents with decks, and a small but inviting pool. Everything faces the pond so there is always something to see or hear. The staff and guides are fantastic. I wish we could have stayed much longer.
