The property is at a great location to see animals -- right at your room! or near the main lodge common area. We saw elephants, hippos, and many birds. We heard lots of other animals.

The staff tried to be accommodating. There were a few problems with the way they handle keys -- such as requiring guests to leave keys for the cleaning staff. But the keys were not available to guests when they returned from an animal drive -- so they couldn't get into their rooms/ tents.

The mokoro boat rides were peaceful and give a different view of animals and birds.

The main problem we had was with the 16-passenger vehicle used for game drives. Other guests had the more traditional open-top "jeep" type vehicles with carried about 8 passengers. We were forced to use the "truck" vehicle which bounced people out of the seats and had branches coming in the sides so that people were touched by the branches even if they "ducked."

The manager tried to accommodate our group and listened to our concerns about the "truck" vehicle.

With a few improvements to procedures this could achieve a better rating.

Saguni was our favorite safari lodge we stayed at during our trip.

Drives
Our driver was Baruti and he was the best. He found us all the big 4 you can find in this area (Rhinos in the delta are on Chief Island. Unless you stay near that island, you won't see rhinos). He was amazing at tracking, but he was also very fun and made each drive an adventure. Elephants are everywhere around Saguni. You can't go anywhere without seeing elephants (or hippos). We even had the elephants come to get water one morning during breakfast.

If you come in the winter, the morning drives are very cold. You will need layers (I suggest packing a hat and gloves. I didn't, but would have been happy to have them). They supply fleece ponchos to give you another layer and they are very important! I also highly recommend a scarf, even if you aren't coming in the winter. The dust gets everywhere and if you're speeding along to catch up to an animal, it's nice to block some of the dust you are driving through with a scarf.

Tent
The tents are very nice, but the screen doors do not have flaps. You will go to bed with a view outside and with animal activity in the area, it can be a bit scary. Anytime the sun is down, your guide will walk you to/from your tent. The winter mornings are very cold so you will want warm pjs and socks. They give you a "busy baby" (heated water pouch) to sleep with to help with the low temperatures. The tent has bug spray that you can use and a horn to blow if anything happens in the middle of the night.

Meals
The food was amazing. I actually made a comment to my husband that I wish they sold a cook book that I could purchase. You eat all your meals with the others in your safari drives and your guide. This allowed us all to bond and share stories about other drives and what we experienced in the day. It made the camp feel like a family and we were sad to leave all our new friends.

If you want a unique experience of being kept awake by hippos, (because you can count 14 of them in the stream right outside your tent) or having an elephant walk towards your porch while you’re standing on it, or seeing a hippo or hyena cross your path while going back to your tent at night (luckily we were driven back) , this is the place for you. It’s right near a river and smack in the bush. That elephant walked past our tent from point A to point B. We really didn’t feel all that safe walking the long distance to the main area.
I gave it 3 stars because 1) there was no hot water in the shower during the 3 days we wanted to use it. 2) they left one bath towel for two people and did not respond after two requests. 3) the food was lukewarm and something they called “pork belly” was a horrible dish of gristle and cartilage and inedible, lukewarm fat. 4) they returned our laundry wet.
It was the worst of four camps on out OAT safari.
