I can’t say enough positive things about our experience. The safari activities, staff, and food all exceeded expectations. The camp management personnel were warm, attentive and went the extra mile. Chachos (safari guide)did so as well, making sure everyone got great views and had the time for photos; he was also adept and persistent in jumping on opportunities when they arose (particularly with regard to the big cats). The food was restaurant quality with regional flair. Meals and cocktails were attended by camp staff who were both warm and informative about Botswana and its culture. The settings for sunset safari cocktails were great, and the snacks with them tasty as well. A “can’t miss” experience.
Our room was large and beautiful, the staff were warm and professional, our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and interesting, the food was absolutely excellent.
This is great place to stay for an amazing experience. Our guide did an excellent job of getting us great views of an amazing array of animals. Everyday we had cocktails at a beautiful location in Moremi Game Reserve. We were fed extremely well - an frequently.
Okuti is beautifully designed and organized. This was our third safari camp and the best, both for the animals we saw and the people we met. People who work there are open, friendly and welcome you into their lives. We especially appreciated learning about each person, their lives and perspectives on Botswana...not to mention the signing and dancing of the staff around the campfire on the deck before dinner. The rooms are beautiful, open, large, clean and atomospheric with reed lined ceilings and open screened porches to the river, inside and outside showers, and places to sit on the porches and in the room. The food is amazing, can't do better than this in upscale city restaurants. The guides are knowledgeable and certain to expose you to birds, animals and scenery that would be missed if on your own. We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and they went out of their way to give us a special dinner lit by candles in an open field, as well as the bridal suite!
The great reviews of Okuti we found well deserved. The staff certainly are very friendly and love you to feel like part of their family. It was great to find out about their lives, view their singing and dancing which put a smile on your face and share their delicious food. They go out of their way to share everything they have with you from knowledge and culture to personal touches. Pre dinner drinks round the campfire were a great time to get to know people.
We loved our room here. it was huge, spacious and a lovely setting with unique architecture. It was also easier to walk around than a lot of other camps. The bathroooms- indoor and outdoor were great. The bed was super comfortable.
Salini our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us lots of amazing sights even if he did get quite a shock one morning when a hippo charged our jeep- quite abnormal behaviour in the circumstances but he responded very quickly gunning the jeep out of there- we certainly learned how fast a hippo can go but as he said he knew he could go faster! We loved the way the impala play catch me if you can when the lions are around by calling out their barking warning call. There was a lot to see on the game drives and we love our sundowners on the delta watching the "Jesus" bird walk on water. One disadvantage with game drives here is having to be out of the park by 6.30pm so no night safaris. Suggest following this up with a camp that has night safaris so you can experience that too. However it did mean earlier nights to bed or more time to socialise than we had previously where you are out later due to night drives so that gave a bit of respite.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this 2nd Kerr and Downey camp, Kanana also being fantastic.
This Ker & Downey property was our favourite of the three Botswana bush camps which we stayed in. The room was large and bright with a deck overlooking the river. There was both an indoor and an outdoor private shower. We loved the outdoor one which had complete privacy but was open above to the skies and birds. The kitchen did a great job with the food: served communally at a large table. The camp was beside the Moremi Game reserve but protected by an electric fence which meant it was less of an issue to go back and forth to the rooms at twilight. A computer with internet connection was available for guests to use in the main lodge. Staff went out of their way to look after all our needs. For us doing game drives both morning and evening got monotonous so the option of doing a boat trip or just staying in camp was welcome. We were even offered a cooking lesson in the kitchen as an alternative.
