“Pricey, Poor service, Frigid rooms, but great view”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

One night stay as layover for flight back to U.S. The room key machine was down from time of check in and next day as well. It was chaos as anyone checking in needed to be let in by the staff. With no easy room access you were a prisoner basically of your room which felt like a meat locker at 16 degrees C. My colleaugues rooms were equallly as frigid. Even shutting down the A/C did not raise the temperature but 2 degrees during the night. There was no heating option.I slept with several layers of clothes and towels wrapped around my feet. Travelling in Venezuela for a week, who would bring thermal underware? The breakfast was unremarkable and service poor. However the pool area and view were lovely.Concur with others about surrounding neighborhood. Travel with care and in a trusted vehicle. The hotel car service was US$25 to the ariport. At approx US$400 a night this was a rip off.

The hotel was very convenient to the airport, not a very nice neighborhood but manageable. The rooms were OK and clean. The service was not very good, very slow. Out of all of the staff I interacted with only one went out of his way to speak to me in English. I've traveled a lot, in most countries and hotels when a foreigner at least makes an effort to communicate in the native language the staff or locals defer to English. At this hotel it was not to be. Marriott should invest in second language classes for their staff if they want to cater to an international clientele. To top everything off it was extremely expensive, not worth the value that's for sure.

We recently spent a night at the Marriott Playa Grande. We got one room with two double beds for 2 adults and 2 kids. The room was okay, though small. We had to pay extra for the internet, but it was very reasonable, and pretty fast, so it was fine. The elevators were extremely slow. Of the three elevators, one was not working, and the other two were painfully slow. The pool was very nice, with lots of lounges, waiters that came by regularly with drinks, and a very pleasant feel. Unfortunately, there was no view of the sunset, which would have been nice. The service at the restaurant was inconsistent. We ordered an appetizer which didn't come until we reminded the waiter after the main meal had already been delivered. The dinner was okay, though I would have liked an expanded menu. On the other hand, the breakfast buffet was very complete, and tasty. Unfortunately, we couldn't get anyone to serve us coffee or water until we asked three different people and they finally got the message. Check-in and check-out were very efficient, and the staff were all very nice. It was a good overnight getaway from Caracas. We avoided traffic by leaving at 2:00 pm from Caracas to the hotel and at 1:00 pm from the Marriott to return to Caracas.

This hotel is outrageously expensive. It's a Marriott. It is unremarkable except that it has a beautiful pool area and is right on the sea. There is absolutely no reason to stay here unless, as i was, you have a tight overnight layover in Caracas and not enough time to get into the city, sleep, and get back to the airport.

It is really close to the airport and has all the amenities you would expect from an american hotel chain. There is an awesome (and very pricy) breakfast buffet.

The only real downside is how expensive it is. The rooms are many hundreds of dollars. They can charge this because there is really only one other hotel in the vicinity and you wouldn't be staying there unless you needed to be close to the airport.

My one night stay was just fine, but the price tag makes me cringe.

We got here without planning it, and spend Christmas's eve in here, in a change of hours in a connection flight.

We think it is a nice hotel, the issue is that it is supposed to be a 5 star hotel, well... It doesn't get there in some aspects, specially on things to do.

It has almost everything, but for the price, I would perfectly could get a much better place in Caracas. I think that they get this prices because there are not too many good options beyond 3 star in Maiquetia or nearby.

The conditions of the hotel are good enough. The location is good, but the security around this place is really bad, I wanted to go to mass in a nearby church, 2 blocks away, and they hardly recommended me to take a taxi for 25$ each way. You feel secure inside of the hotel, getting in and out of it is another story.

They used armored taxis for transportation from the airport in a call to the hotel basis, We wait almost an hour for the taxi to arrived. We saw the competition hotel Van every 5 to 10 minutes. I would really preferred staying closer to the airport if having to take another flight the day after

The hotel is too expensive for what they offer. I always stay there one night when I need to travel from Venezuela. Before they offered free shuttle from airport but since 2013 they stop offering it. Rooms are big and clean. Need some maintenance of elevators and speed up check in. Food in restaurant is good. Not enough choice for room service, specially after 11 pm. Areas of the hotel are nice. The hotel is recommended for 1 night only if you must stay close to the airport.

I have stayed here twice while travelling to and from offshore. Overall a good hotel, nice comfortable clean rooms, with tv and a large bathroom, free wifi in public areas (you have to pay for it in your room) and a nice pool and café area. It also has a gym, however I didn't use this so cannot comment.

My one criticism is the restaurant. While the service itself by the waiting staff is good, the kitchen is very slow at sending out food. The restaurant was very quiet with only a couple of tables occupied yet it still took over 30 mins for a starter to arrive on both occasions I stayed. Ordering a sandwich at lunch by the pool was also a long wait.

Having said this, the staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend this hotel overall.
