I traveled Venezuela for two weeks early in August, 2018. Given that I had only two weeks of vacation, I searched for some local tours to travel very efficiently although I normally preferred free backpacking. I contacted several local tour companies, but I decided to work with Angel Eco Tours (AET) since Ben gave me quick responses anytime through iPhone, email or whatsapp. Before I fly to Venezuela, I could learn about Venezuela and he could customize my traveling given my situation thanks to his proactive interactions.
For 12 days (except roundtrip), I traveled Mt Roraima, angel falls tour plus Caracas. During my traveling, I did not worry about my safety because his company provided me with door-to-door service. That is, wherever I go, his employees used to wait for me and escort/guide me. One of the difficulties to travel Venezuela is to use US dollars. As many people might know well about Venezuelan economic situation, it is hard to exchange Venezuelan money with foreign currency. In order to avoid these problems, they used to pay with local currency first and then I gave them US dollars when we went to the restaurant.
As I previously mentioned, I traveled Mt Roraima (6N/5D) and angel falls (3N/2D). In terms of Mt. Roraima, it is amazing. My right leg is not so good so I hired a porter while trekking 6 days (totally 80 dollars). I believe that you really enjoy amazing scenery of Roraima. However, only one thing that I am disappointed was weather. August is rainy season and it is harder to see great view on the top of the mountain compared to dry season. Although I stayed on the top of the mountain 1.5 days, I did not enjoy “the window” very well. Instead, rainy season is best time to visit angel falls. You might visit several falls including Angel falls for three days. Obviously, angel falls are the most famous tourist place compared to other falls during the tour, I personally preferred other falls because of various activities. You could swim, dive, and pass through the falls all day. That makes my phone and camcorder wet and gone, and I needed to buy new products. However, the tour was so exciting! Last day, I had chance to travel Caracas one day before I leave Venezuela. Many people might avoid traveling Caracas given safety issue. I had the same feeling. Additionally, I was not interested in tourist attractions in Caracas. What I wanted to do in Caracas is to see their life style and atmosphere. Thanks to local guide provided by AET, I could look around Caracas with Deborah and learn many things about Venezuela from her. I feel like I hang out with my local friend. Thanks to their consideration, I could travel Venezuela very safely.
