Owner description: This fascinating terrain consists of vast plains filled with tabletop mountains, or tepuis.
Reviewed November 10, 2008

For those who like wild nature and Indians.

Gran Sabana is the region of over 300 waterfalls and 100 tepuy - table mountains cut by giant hills, moriche palms and rain forest. Most of tepuy is still not discovered by scientists, the most available for trekkings is tepuy Roraima 2800m with its endemic fauna and flora.

This is a place where Indians Taurepanes and Kamaracoto live in their houses built from red soil and palm roof.

The open space of Gran Sabana seems to be never ended.

Only one city is Santa Elena de Uairen where the time seems to stopped in early seventies. You will hear salsa and marengue music everywhere on streets, barbeque smell, old huge cars.

It is 30 min by car from Brazilian boarder. You can get here by 5 person cessna from Canaima or by bus from Ciudad Bolivar and Puerto Ordaz.

Here are 2 hotels with 4 venezulan stars and very traditional posadas - type of small family hotels or ecolodges.
