“Cockroaches Hotel...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

This is WORST Hotel I ever been in! It is indeed locaded in a very nice and pleaseant neighborhood (Altamira) where you can walk without any problems to restaurantes and bars close by and in Caracas this is not an easy task as it it one of the most dangerous cities in the world. This nice area doesn't tell you the mightmare this hotel is. The room had a dirty look as it has certainly not been renovaded since the opening day, I don't know, maybe 30 years ago. The room carpet had several burn marks made by a iron so as several stains all over. Same goes with the "white" walls that have dirt stains . The air conditioned had a leak that was pouring into a bucket (you need to remove a grid over a build-in-desk to see it). The 2 beds where more appropriape for a teenager room than for a grown up hotel. The tiny bathroom had mold in every tile. The breakfast is very basic while food is available and "the cherry in the top of the cake" was a cockroach that was waking around on the top my table between cups na plates as I having breakfast! Unbelievable! The price for this crap hole is 200 USD per night if you pay with a credit card or US Cask. A complete madness. I paid with Bolivars which makes the price much less but even for 50 USD consider that you are being stollen. This is a hotel that I would consider using for FREE in case there would be no other place available in Caracas to stay. Choose another. Take my word for it!

Despite the very good location at Altamira neighborhood this building cannot be called a Hotel. It's very old and there's no maintenance at all. I was there with some work collegues and all the rooms were awful, dirty and old. The breakfast is very simple with some bread, ham, cheese and 2 options of fruits. Some of the lights work others don't, some of the showers get hot some only get cold water... the lifters / elevators are very dangerous. The Venezuelan authorities must visit and close this place for renovation.

Room Tip: Lower floors due to the old elevators.

We made a reservation to check in after flight, around 6 a.m. We arrived at the hotel and it was (!?) closed! Yes, like you see in films, with a bar on the door and with lights off. The attendendant was sleeping, he woke up and said that we could come to the rooms only when they were arranged, and the people to arrange would arrive around 9 am, but he was not sure. It was unbelieveble. Some of our colleagues went to look for another hotel but me and some other colleagues were so tired that wait there and we could convince the attendant to give a key to us, to take a look in a room. It was a horror movie! Old, old, old and in bad condiction.... the bathroom was dirty with insects. The room had a terrible smell and the bed was completely destroyed... and this room was suposed to be for one of us. After that we just ran away. I definetely don´t recommend this "hotel"!

...Hotel Continental Altamira was a really good hotel.

I will keep this review as brief as possible.

PRO's:
-Great shower water pressure (you will need to massage your aching muscles from sleeping on the torture rack that is in the bedroom).
-Great cross ventilation (The A/C performance is unreliable).
-Location. Close to the Altamira Metro Station and good restaurants.

CON's:
-No internet service in the rooms. Spotty performance in the lobby.
-Two, very thin, towels per room (yes I was lucky). No hand towels, no wash cloths.
-The bed(s). Very Hard.
-A/C. Does not work all the time and when it works it is as if it didn't.
-Decor. Perfume ads????
-Carpeting. Must be, at least, ten years old. ..and no padding!
-T.V. sets in the room. Cheap 19" units with remote controls that must be reset by hotel staff.
-Structure Maintenance. No words here. Just take a look at the photos I uploaded.
-Toilets. Is this a hotel or a high school?

The only good thing about this hotel is the Italian restaurant you will find across the street.
The rooms are run down and dirty.
No internet at the rooms and the lobby wifi work sometimes...
The rate was raised to the double on April to about $200 if you pay with credit card or the official exchange.
Don’t bother and find other place...

The room was moldy with bad smell.
The water in the sink hardly drained.
The room had mosquitos that bit me through clothes.
The balcony door did not lock or close all the way.
One towel for two people. Had to ask five times for additional towels.
Internet is only at the lobby which is full of mosquitos.
Make sure you bring bug repellant.
The continental breakfast included three pieces of toast.

  • Liked — nothing

What does $175 a night get you? Mold on the ceiling, balcony doors that may or may not lock, a dirty bed, and 3 pieces of white bread toast for the included continental breakfast. Oh, and a little bit of theft. I had books stolen from my room, but was luckier than the man next door, who had a watch and computer stolen from his room. This was suprising, given the location in Caracas and the appearance of security in the hotel. My room clearly hadn't been cleaned when I checked in (bed made, but with someone else's hair on the sheets, and trash in the cans) and had some mold issues. Fortunately, the staff is nice and it's pretty easy to move to a different room if needed. Hotel rooms in Caracas are in short supply, so make sure to book early.
