“Beaitiful hotel in bad area”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

We are sort of prisoners in a gilded cage in Caracas. Both the driver from the armed taxi service I hired and the waiter at the hotel said I should not walk outside the hotel, although it looked ok to me. Caracas is an ugly city, trash, rubbish and ugly 70s style crumbling,Russian block apartments, not easy to get around if u value your life. Unfortunately, Air Canada stranded me here with its crappy connections, so had to stay somewhere. The hotel makes the best of it, cant complain about anything except I booked this place as it was the only one with a pool and didnt get to use it because it rained the few hours I had free. Not the hotels fault but $310 a night is a lot to pay anywhere. No shuttle, which wouldve saved me an additional $90, because its a full 45min from airport. Nice room, suite with 4 separate locks! Clean except for vacuuming but they let me in early and girl hadnt finished when they led me to room, so not their fault. Wifi in room tho not in lobby, free. Breakfast included but not til 6:30. As I had to leave at 5, they did hAve out pastries, fresh OJ and coffee, which was good. Gym is great, consolation for not using small pool. Room has 2 TVs, lots of channels, safe for valuables, clock radio( couldnt figure out wakeup call system, never went off though I probably couldve asked). Service was exceptional from doorman, waiters, reception, concierge, very professional. Had huge club sandwich in Atrium for $10 that did me, with fresh juice & dessert for $12 more, for lunch& dinner. Cocktails free 5:30 to 7:30, probably so you will have dinner there, which u pretty much have to do anyway. Quiet though opens onto central atrium ( no fresh air), newspaper, minibar with $8 pack of M&Ms!!! I paid on visa but room would be half price if u paid cash as credit cards get official rate of 4 Bolivares per $1us, but u can change dollars and get 8. Caution though, no one will buy back Bs so dont change much. My hotel on Isla Margarita was the only place that took American Express travelers cheques coz owner is Canadian and has Canadian bank account. Otherwise Venezuelans arent allowed to have US cash as Chavez is a blacklisted Commie, apparently. Shower lots of pressure and hot water once I jimmied broken switch. 5 star no, but best u will get in Caracas. Will not come back to Venezuela, Colombia much more tourist friendly & advanced from what I could see.

Staying in Caracas is not a simple matter due to every day this city gets more dangerous. In this sense the hotel seems to be a good option. The rooms are comfortable and clean, but the noise from the street is annoying, I think they should invest in thermopanels for the windows.
The service is quite good, especially in the bar, where the bartenders are above the average.
Finally, the food in the restaurant is weak. We had dinner two nights there and it was very dispointing.

Room Tip: Ask if they have rooms with newer windows, not sure if they do.

I've stayed at the ES Caracas about 20 times over the last five years and I keep coming back. Why? Because the people are nice, cheerful and helpful.
On the plus side, the hotel is well located, the breakfast is usually quite good and as I said the staff is usually very nice (to me at least). Internet is complementary and has worked pretty well the last few stays. Once I was sick with the flu, and one of the housekeeping ladies pretty much treated me like a son, bringing me soup and tea and checking in on me.
That said, it seems every stay includes some kind of annoyance.
This time it was the shower. The shower faucets were faulty and couldn't get more than a trickle of hot water. Not the first time with this kind of problem
Another time it was the elevators (two of three out of order), or it was not getting the room type I reserved, not getting an internet connection, etc, etc.
Aside from that, many rooms are noisy, as it is located on a busy intersection. It's also expensive, especially if you don't know your way around the "other" currency market. You may also experience trouble getting your Hhonors points credited (keep your hotel bill and make a missing stay request).
All that said, this is Venezuela, a country which has been subject to strict currency controls for almost a decade and where shortages of such staples like sugar, cooking oil and replacement parts for everything (such as elevators and showers) can be almost impossible to find at times.
I've stayed at other hotels in Caracas, such as the JW Marriott, which had nicer rooms but the staff was incredibly obnoxious.
If you take it in context and with some patience, the Embassy Suites is a good choice. If you need everything to be perfect, expect to be disappointed, here or most anywhere in Caracas.

Since the last time I came to Caracas in 2008, one thing remains. It is expensive!!

The hotel is ok in terms of the rooms and the comfort. If you are a light sleeper try to get something away from the busy street. During the second week they had a maintenance issue with their elevator. This made for a very inconvenient stretch of four days. I had to spend anywhere from five to ten minutes if I wanted to go to my room on the eighth floor. It was unfortunate when I asked several staff members when they were going to fix it. They did not present that much interest in getting this resolved. It really sucked to be anyone on the upper floors (i.e. 14 and 15). Breakfast in the morning was good if there were not much people. Have a lot of patience in the morning if there happens to be a large group or convention in the hotel.

The front desk staff is friendly, however, inefficient. It takes longer to check in then what I am used to or just answer a question. Overall the cons of the Embassy are similar to those of hotels in the Caracas area. Have plenty of time on hand and maybe know a local.

We spent two nights at this hotel and the first one was a nightmare. The bed was veeeery uncomfortable and since the hotel is located in a very noisy neighborhood, you could hear very clear the traffic noise. We asked for another room the second day and got one with a very good bed, located in a higher floor. Since the category and price of the hotel is high I don't accept they assign a room in such conditions. The staff is very professional and friendly. Breakfast was included and it was very good. he hotel offers a small gym in very good conditions and a small pool. Very well located

Room Tip: Ask for a room located at floors 12, 13, 14, 15,16

The hotel is located in Chacao, a very good part of the city, close to Altamira and Los Mercedes where one can find very good restaurants. Close by are the shopping malls San Ignacio and Sambil. The front desk staff is very professional and friendly. A very tasty Venezuelan breakfast buffet as well as cocktails (from 17.30 until 19.00 hrs) are included. The only weak spot of this hotel is the housekeeping.

Room Tip: I had a junior suite on the 18th floor which I can warmly recommend as the suites on the 18th floor...

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in March 2011.
Staff was very attentive, the rooms / suites were spacious had nice furniture, and were quiet. Breakfast with lots of options, but quite crowded on morning rush-hour.
The guitar and harp duo playing soothing music pieces was a nice touch while eating breakfast.
The location is smack in the middle of the business district, and across from a famous shopping mall.

Room Tip: Rooms in top floor, far away from the noisy avenues that sorround the hotel are recommended.
