For a fancy experience, Le Gourmet, the restaurant of the Hotel Tamanaco Intercontinental in Caracas delivers. The hotel itself can use a face lift, but the restaurant itself features an ecletic menu with classic and creative offerings. The chef sent me an amuse bouche trio: fresh salmon ceviche with avocado and caviar foam, paper-thin yuca chips, and a white fish in a pesto -cream sauce. All three were served in cute dishes perfect for the presentation. For appetizer I had the goat cheese salad. Imagine three different types of goat cheeses - 2 of which served warm--in a deep dish topped with fresh mesculun greens and roasted nuts drizzled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Then for entree, I actually ordered a warm appetizer because it sounded--and ended up tasting--irresistible. I had wild mushroom ravioli in a truffle oil cream sauce. The presentation was so beautiful I did not want to touch it; three gray-brown ravioli each topped with a shaving of truffle in a beautiful sauce. I enjoyed the food with a glass of tempranillo, which was great as it did not overpower the mushrooms. The dessert I had a tasting of three desserts: mocha creme brulee (served in a shot glass), two finger-length slivers of flourless chocolate cake served in pistachio sauce, and the last was a an orange peel ice cream served over crumbled shortbread. The ambiance is formal, even a bit stuffy (chandeliers, all the furniture has gold-leaf trim) but the various beautiful orchids throughout the dining room help liven the atmosphere. Great experience!
