“Why not Movida?”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Apparently,

All the Posadas above 80 usd per person have excellent meals, nice atmosphere, nice staff and are clean and cozy.

We talked to people that were in other Posadas which have the same price and everyone was satisfied with their choices.

Even knowing that, Posada Movida was not just another very nice posada in Los roques. Bellow I try to tell a few facts and some impressions (my opinion and belief) that makes movida better and different:

Facts

1 - We got 2 nice and clean beach towel every day. In an island that lacks water, not every posada give you towels to bring to beach.

2 – The lunch box had 4 beers, 4 sodas, and we were never able to finish all the nice food the we had brought to beach.

3 – During the dinner, we have wine. Every time we finish a bottle they would bring us another one. I did not ask about ho many were included, but we tought that we could drink as much as we wanted during the dinner.

4 – We got fresh fruit juice during the breakfast and during the welcome meal after the beach (5PM).

5 – We did not spend any penny in los roques besides the souvenir that we took home with us. Everyhing that we need, it was already included.

6 – The dinner includes starters, salads, main, desert, coffee, rum and wine.

8 – The Posada has two boats. I went diving two days and, when I said that I would go diving, the manager simply asked which island I would like them prepare the umbrella and what time I would like them to pick me up.

9 – The hot water never ended. I don´t know how is this in the other posadas.

Opinions, impressions and beliefs…

1 - We tough about going to different place to eat, but we just could not risk miss the surprise that the cook of the posada makes everyday. It is amazing. We did not go in he lobsters season; otherwise we would have eaten a few outside the posada. Perhaps they include lobsters in the specific season. I would not doubt that.

2 – We just did not have to think. This has a value for me. Everything ready and all our needs were suppressed before we realized that they were a need.

Not everything was perfect:

1 – We stayed 36 hours without internet and nobody at Movida could tell us why.

2 – One day, they were late to pick us up. We enjoyed that, but this is a foul.

We stayed 4 nights at Posada Movida and we had an amazing time.
The highlights were:
- Mario was VERY helpful regarding the booking and organization
- the food was absolutely delicious every day and every meal
- the wine was included in the price which was not the case for our friends staying at another (more expensive) posada

Thanks to everyone at Movida - next time in Los Roques we will definitely stay with you again and in the meantime recommend to friends!

We spent five nights at Posada Movida in June 2012, and from start to finish it was a wonderful experience. Mario, the owner, went out of his way countless times to ensure we were happy and well looked after. He also coordinates the large team so efficiently that we were constantly impressed, especially after the very poor service we had experienced in other parts of Venezuela.

Each day is heaven - breakfast at 8am (we're already missing Mario's omelettes), 9.15am boat to a nearby island where the staff setup your umbrella, chairs and place a fully stocked esky / cooler next to you, pick you up around 4.30-5pm, return to Posada Movida to see what treats (e.g. bruschetta, mini pizzas) are coming out of the oven, fresh mango juice, and then, if you have much of an appetite left, a three course dinner that was more like a fine dining restaurant due to Mario's exceptional culinary skills, with servings of buffet proportions.

We had an AMAZING time and will definitely be back. Thanks for having us Mario!

My wife and I travelled to Los Roques from Fortaleza, Brazil for 9 days in April 2012 for the purpose of kite surfing and diving. We decided to stay at Posada Movida based on the numerous positive reviews on Trip advisor, and glad we did.

Prior to traveling Mario organized our flights from Caracas and overnight stay at a Hotel close to the airport. Having heard a few worrying reports about Caracas we were reassured to be met by Mario’s represenitive on arrival who helped exchange local money and drove us to the hotel. We were picked up again in the morning, taken back to the airport where he assisted in helping us check in for the flight to Caracas.

On Arrival in Los Roques we were met by Mario who took our luggage to the posada and explained how the Posada Functioned. Breakfast was at 8, leave around 0915 for the boat trips were they take you to one of the surrounding islands for the day with a provided lunch and drinks stored in a cooler box. The Boat picks you back up again around 1630, on arrival in The Posada they have small snacks and drinks ready waiting for you. Dinner is served at 1930 and consisted of three courses and served with complimentary wine.

I was impressed by the high standard of the food and looked forward everyday to dinner to see what culinary delights awaited. They certainly seemed to have a passion for cooking and this was displayed in both presentation and quality of food.

The Posada itself is well kept and clean and has a cozy feel to it, the owners make you feel welcome and are always at hand to answer any queries. Rooms have A/C and on suite bathrooms with hot showers. One of the Best things we found about staying there was interacting with the other guests during meal times etc, we met some great people during our stay there., many of whom were return visitors to the posada

I thought the all inclusive package was great value for money, Los Roques is a beautiful place, both diving and kite surfing were amazing . We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during our time spent there, it is not a case of if we will go back but when!!!

After two years, our dream about returning to Los Roques came true. It's always risky to return to a place that you liked so much; things change, and not always to the better. But this time we had only positive surprises! Mario and Livia continue to manage Movida with the highest standards, and they have also developed one of their strongest assets, namely the boat trips. Movida already had one of the best boats on the island, but now they have a second boat, even bigger and stronger than the first one. This is very important when you make your choice of posada, since the boat trips are your chance to see this wonderful archipelago. Many posadas have no boat or just a small boat that akes you only to the closest islands. We stayed 10 days this time and got to the most distant island Cayo de Agua twice (!) including visit at Dos Mosquises turtle center, further day trips went to Carenero, Sarqui (with turtles), Rabusqi (with starfish), snorkling at the eastern barrier in addition to more common trips to Crasqui and Noronquises, which are also wonderful places. We had a fairly rough sea coming back from distant Carenero, but with Movidas boats and skilled drivers, this is not a problem - you can always feel safe with them. The Movida boats are always among the first to leave for the islands in the morning, which means you always get the best spots on the beaches :) I also appreciate that Movida's boats don't play loud beach party music, which many of the other boats do (luckily the boats only stay by the beach while dropping off its passengers and setting up umbrellas for them).
Back at the posada no effort is spared on your well being. Mario and Francesca do wonders in the kitchen (mind you, if you don't like fish, you should probably choose another destination). The posada is not big, but very cosy and always clean. The rooms are nicely decorated, working AC, fairly small, but who cares since your out all day any way, and you can always relax on the roof top terrace under the stars in the evening or hang around in the open area downstairs.
Mario arranges everything for you ahead of your trip from the moment you set foot in Caracas. We were so pleased to meet Hector again who took us to the overnight stay at Buena Vista (I hope next time Hector has opened his own hotel) and he picked us up at 4:30 next morning, drove us back to the airport and assisted at check in for the early morning plane to Los Roques.
I have tried to describe practical things that make Movida such a good choice, but most of all I appreciate the atmosphere which is always joyful and top proffessional at the same time, thanks to Mario and Livia and their team. And a special mentioning of Harri for arranging all the boat trips according to the wishes of all guests should not be forgotten. Thank you!
A few words about the guests: most of them (according to my limitedexperience) are Italians and after this visit I can add Brazilians. People of other nationalities are often either fly fishers or kite surfers with girlfriends/families. Most visitors seem to be couples, some of them with children, all in all an interesting mix around the table, a good opportunity to make new friends!
