Posada Natura Viva
Reviewed December 5, 2011

We spent 2 nights in Oct 2011 - a very relaxing and calm ambience makes this a perfect choice for premium accommodation on Los Roques. Situated on the beach side and raised over a metre off the sand, it has a central courtyard with a turkish flavour, spacious rooms and air cond, fans and a generator. The latter is most important as the town's generator only worked for a few hours during our 3 day stay in very hot weather!! Nothing is too much trouble for any staff member to make your stay pleasurable. The rooftop bar and dining room is perfect for a drink at sunset followed by thoughtful and delicious meals. Excellent, thanks!

A huge shout out to all the employees from this posada!!!! My boyfriend and I took my mom for her bday to los Roques and we had a wonderful time. From the breakfast to dinner the service at Natura Viva was fenomenal, they took care of every detail and made us feel soo welcome.Food was delicious, fresh, the boat trips awesome and the posada itself is really cozy and beautiful, one of the best view from los Roques from the Terraza. I highly recommend to everyone to pick this posada as a destination , I promise you wont regret it. I cant wait to go next year and I will definitely will stay there without any doubt. its the best!!!! Thanks thanks for making our trip unforgettable.

I cannot give enough praise to the national park and therefore even the tent would have probably been ok, but Posada Natura Viva has certainly complemented to the overall fantastic experience. Each posada on the island is unique and charming in its own way. Natura Viva belongs to a more expensive range, it is really well positioned (one of the best), spacious and very clean.
Rooms are very comfortable decorated in traditional (I assume colonial) style with good beds and bathroom. They are equipped with aircon, ceiling fan, mini fridge and safe. Please bare in mind that there is no hot water in Posada (or the whole island?), which was strange at first, but we got used to it really quick. Another special feature is that water does not run 24/7. As far as I understood there is no water running during the "beach hours" (approx 10 am - 16 pm) and they turn it back on when tourists start getting back from the islands and on request. Electricity is funny as well, they have their own generator and it didn't work that well, but there are plenty of candles in the hall and in the rooms themselves, which makes the stay even more exotic and romantic:). They really have to use the water and electricity carefully, so all of the above is very understandable though may seem disturbing to a spoiled European traveller especially considering the high prices.
The strangest thing about some of the rooms in posada are the windows, they face the courtyard instead of the street, so you really can not keep them open for obvious reasons.
Food. We had a full board package (the majority of tourists do) as it was very convenient and not a lot more expensive than half board. Breakfast was really good, but do ask for things as they serve to the table and you can order any breakfast food from all sorts of eggs to pancakes and cereal. Lunch was packed to go in a large cooler and was rather poor, but with plenty of water and enough cerveza. However, you can not resist eating at the restaurants on some islands anyways. Dinner in posada was great, and so was the service. Restaurant itself is probably one of the best on the island. It is a lovely terrace on the upper level from where you can overlook the sea and Gran Roques town.

My wife and I stayed at Natura Viva at the end of a fortnight's tour of Venezuela in October 2007. I note that one more recent reviewer has commented that there has since been a change of manager and the place is much improved. However, for us, even in 2007, it was a great place to relax.

We had a room at the end of the building which fronted right onto the beach. I think this may have been the best room at the Posada, but if you are looking at staying here, I'd recommend you ask for our room. The room itself was relatively basic by the standards of European hotels, but, I suspect, better than most posadas on Los Roques. It was really quite charming, though, with everything we needed. Note that there was no hot water in our ensuite though, but I think this was fairly standard. In any event, the weather is so warm that you probably won't want a hot shower.

The service at Natura Viva was very good. Every morning, the posada staff will take you out in its motor boat to one of the many nearby islands where you can relax on the beach. You'll be left with a cooler box full of food (included in the price), deck chairs and a parasol. All you need to do is say when you want to be picked up later. The food at the roof-top restaurant was pretty good too.

The only problem that we encountered was really down to us rather than the staff at Natura Viva. My Spanish is extremely basic and whilst it was just about enough to get us by, beaing able to speak Spanish is a major advantage here. None of the staff spoke much (or any) English, so don't expect the staff to speak your language rather than theirs. For us, this simply made Los Roques more attractive since there were clearly not enough English tourists to make knowing how to speak English an advantage.

We would definitely recommend people visit Los Roques and stay at Natura Viva, and we would do so again ourselves if we had the chance. Both the islands and the posada are beautiful and are the ideal place for a bit of rest and relaxation.

After having spent 6 days there in 2007, we came back for 9 days in March 2009. We already liked it in 2007 but we loved it this time; much improvement following change of manager and cook. What we particularly liked: the situation (quiet and in front of the ocean), the terrasse, the ambiance, the inner garden, the food (trully excellent now), the flexibility of the whole staff, the cocktails, etc.
I would recomment this posada without hesitation.
