Hesperia Isla Margarita

Considering the negative reviews, I wasn't expecting much. I'm now convinced that mostly unhappy people write reviews because I was more then happy overall. The staff were incredibly kind - I don't know how anyone can rate them poorly ... but maybe that's because we were kind to them. The room was huge - yes, outdated and needed some paint but who spends lots of time in their room on a vacation anyway?! The food absolutely exceeded my expectation. I'm a picky eater & found something everyday (all 3 meals). The weather was FANTASTIC. The beach was great (chairs/shades etc) eventhough the water was cold (refreshing). The last 3 days had a strong undertow in the water but this hotel is located on the North East side of the island so the ocean currents stream into the bay. It's a VERY quiet hotel - no nightlife or evening entertainment except for a piano-player and a harpist. I got more then my $s worth. You can't expect Club Med facilities/service at an all-inclusive hotel that's less then $1,000/wk

Hotel does need some repairs, but my friends and I truly enjoyed our trip and would definitely go back. We only have good things to say about the food, service and staff. Its really quiet a night so if its a party you are looking for, this isn't the hotel for you.

We stayed there for one week it was suppose to be two but we could not handle it we only speak English and we could not commuicate with anyone. We found the rooms not to bad the resort needs some repairs. What we found there was no night entertainment after dinner everyone gathers in lobby which is very loud and no little extra Seafood restaurant , enternet bar, no snacks. No beach restaurant. We were not happy there at all. The pool was very cold. Our room was always clean you have to pay for a safe which is $3.00 a day that is in your room and please take klneex with you, no face cloths.Enter with cautionand understanding

i visited the hotel over the carnival weekend and it will be the last time i ever set foot in there again as it was my forth stay i was looking forward to the same ammenities of the hotel. On our arrival we noticed that the hotel was in a state of disrepaire.the rooms were not very clean the airconditioning ducts were filty .the sauna was under repaire and was not going to be fixed for a while ,this was the only reason that i visit this hotel at all .The food was awful it was if the head chef had left the kitchen assistances in charge as we got the same food for lunch and the remainder for dinner, the desserts were the same every day.Water went and when it came back it was brown and muddy, one day later i got food poisoning and could not leave my room because i was so sick,we were not the only people who got sick so it had to be the water there were washing the vegetables with. After having stayed there four years in a row i saw the hotel go from a 4 star to a 1 there were not even bothered to do a carnival show like other years. the hotel was full so i guess they do not give a dam .Well i can tell you those people who were ther over the carnival weekend promised never to go back because they are a set of pigs who need to get a reality check and stop thinking that there are a 5 star because they are not.

We stayed for 2 weeks from 12th of January to the 26th of January 2009 at hotel Hesperia Isla Margarita in Venezuela, we thought that a vacation on a 5 star hotel should be a pleasant experience and with at lot of service and high standard, but that wasn't what we experienced.

Our experience.
We changed room to times during our stay, the first room had a bump in the floor that we kept stumbling over, and moisture drive the walls and furniture every time we opened the door or the window, the windows were broken and was collared white of the moist, the air condition was set to a to low temperature this room was number 2211, after an hour we decided to get another room then we got room number 2321.
This new room had the same problem with moist, and the ceiling was mouldy and there were holes in it, the lamps over the bed was mouldy, we thought that this was the standard of the rooms, so we lasted therefore 7 days in that room before our agency decided that we should change room again.
This time we got room number 3102, this room had the same problem with moist and the air condition was also set to low.

After the first week all our clothing's smelled mouldy.

The personal was lazy and ignorant, and we had hard to get theirs attention when ordering thee, drinks etc.

The housekeeping was almost not existing, some days we didn't get towels, and other days we just got one, the accessories at the bathroom didn't get refilled except from soap, shampoo and toilet paper. The bucket in the toilet at the 3rd room we got didn’t have a lid on, rather disgusting when it’s not allowed to flush the toilet paper.

Outside a lot of tiles was broken, some places the tiles had given up the grip of the foundation.
The tiles on the pathways was also broken, it looked like sand with stones in it.
The paint was falling of the walls everywhere.

The condition of the hotel looked like a 2 star hotel, not 5 stars.

One day there was a power loss on the entire island at that time the green emergency EXIT signs should light, but none of this emergency signs did work. If this had been a real emergency situation and we had been in our room we didn't had a chance to find our emergency exit.
The emergency exit door located in the end of our corridor on 3rd floor was held open with a large steel sheet because the handle was missing.

The toilets in the lobby and near by the restaurants was very disgusting, they were not cleaned very often.

The only good experience was that the wake up call always was on time and reliable, and the breakfast boxes for tours that we could order was good.

We were really worried after having read all the negative comments..but we were pleasantly surprised and spent 7 amazing days there..
The room is big, well furnished, bath and shower and PLENTY of hot water
The food is really good (, different buffets every night - venezuelian, oriental, international, spanish etc..especially the breakfasts - eggs, bacon, croissants, fruit, viennoisseries), the waiters are polite and quick to prepare new tables
Quiet animation but fun..aqua gym, merengue by the pool, in the evening, piano and music in the lobby near the bar, many people stay and play games, discuss with the others..nice atmosphere..
A great choice of excursions, cheap and well-organized, we did the tour jeep, the dolphins and the cultural tour..

The only negative point for us: no internet café (only WIFI, you need to have your computer with you), the beach (really small , and a lot of rubbish)

As I said, we spent a great week and enjoyed the pluri-cultural environment, guests from all around the world..
