I want to start by saying that the Fijian people on Beqa Island, the staff and around the mainland are fabulous! They are so nice and accommodating. There use to a close community and small villages and treat everyone like family. They made the trip worthwhile!
The Resort however was okay. They had an activity board with daily activities, both free and ones you can purchase. Because the Fijian Dollar is about half of the American Dollar everything was fairly priced. The alcohol drinks were probably most expensive.
The food was good, again after everyone got sick the food just didn't seem the same and not as tempting. Most people picking at what they felt was "safe".
The problems I had with it is that there was always something broken. They had a hot tub and since the weather in Fiji is not as hot as you would expect, the hot tub is a nice touch to stay warm in the evenings. It would be even better it it worked when you went to get in it. We notified the staff and they were quick to get it fixed, but then we had to wait for it to warm up. brr!
As other travelers mention the Boats are sketchy! We came over on a nice big boat that the resort owned and it broke shortly after. We were all stuck sharing a small dive boat. We bought a dive package and we were always waiting around for the boat to come back from taking the owner Brad to the mainland or picking up or dropping off other guests. Our ride back to the mainland to come home was horrifying! they packed all our luggage for two couples into the small dive boat, loaded us on with a driver and a co-captain and headed out over the ocean passage. There were decent sized swells and the boat would lean over. It felt like we could have flipped and been in the ocean at any moment. We didn't have life jackets on and we had our normal clothes which were getting wet from the ocean splash. it was scary!
I also have to mention that 80% of the guests got sick with a horrible stomach flu. My boyfriend included. I can't say it was the plane ride, food, water or Kava but everyone was sick for about 48 hours. A good waste of a couple of days.
All in all we made it a good vacation. You can't travel half way around the world and not make it the absolute best time. Despite the above "dislikes" I would recommend this resort because the Fijian Staff will be so warm and loving. Forget the owners go for the true natives of the land!
