Imagine wind all day, everyday in room with no windows, just shutters and that was our experience! I know this is something out of the control of the resort but boy does it get boring when there is nothing to do due to the wind.

Activities - overpriced and very little communication given about what is happening each day. Even when you finally sign up for something you still don't know if it is going to happen. Also, unless you really want to see the firewalking don't go, it's 95 FJD each for a long boat ride, horrible punch and firewalking that only takes place for the tourists.

Spa - also disorganised but great massages

Room - Very nice and impressive on the surface, just don't look at some things too closely.

Staff - fantastic! Their friendliness was the highlight of the trip.

Food - Overall ok but it is very annoying having to eat at set times. We set an alarm here more than we do at home! Also be prepared to sit with other guests.

Getting there - horrible. A relief to get out of the car and the boat ride is rough. Takes about 3 1/2 hours to get to the island from Nadi.

Overall the weather made the holiday bad and highlighted the problems with the resort, i.e being stuck with little to do. We are disappointed with what we got for the amount we spent. We paid luxury prices and the resort is not luxury.

Worse trip ever. Was terrribly misled by the information provided on the hotel web site and would chalk this experience up to the worse ever experience. Too many things prohibited to do at this hotel which is not written in the site and many extra hidden charges too. To go on an excursion you cannot walk alone and would need to go with a hotel staff which you would have to pay FJD$25.00 just to take you on that walk, the menu was a disaster with most of what you wanted to eat not possible because the ingredients bought from the main land found to be off/spoilt on arrival but these dishes still went on the menu. MOSQUITOES were every where there just was no way to avoid this, you are eaten alive from the second you arrive.

To top off this HORRIBLE experience the transport to get us off the island was delayed 1 and a half hours, how worse could it get but the urge to get off was too great that this was little sacrifice. We got away but not without thinking what a waste for $400 a night experience.

So sorry your stay with Lalati was not what you envisioned. Being a local yourself, it's surprising you didn't realize that guests in Fiji cannot simply hike or trek on their own. Aside from the fact that it can be tricky to maneuver in and around the rainforest (so an able guide with machete can sure make a difference!), when you trek in Fiji, you are walking through private property/plantations owned by villagers. And in order to do that, you need both permission to do so, and a representative (guide) to escort you. I always send out activities lists with prices to any guest wanting to know what is included and what is not. Plus, our website clearly states all the "complimentary" activities, and all the "charged" activities.

And am also surprised that, coming from Suva, you seemed shocked to find mosquitoes in Fiji, as the children attending school there in Suva are always instructed to bring their mosquito repellent to school with them.

I am sorry if any of my emails mislead you and I guarantee that this was not my intention. Had I known that you were not looking for the type of experience we offer at Lalati Resort & Spa, I would have directed you to another, less remote location. I believe what some find charming and exotic (the lovely island staff, pristine location) is not everyone's "cup of tea." Thank you for taking the time to post your review, and sorry we did not meet your expectations.

You will be welcomed and loved from day one through your stay. The personality here is unmatched. Your stay will be like no other you have before. Arrive with a beautiful, but "different" drink and the soothing songs of the locals as you step off the boat. Which is much needed from the 2.5 hour ride in the van and a 30 minute boat ride. The rides are not bad, nice people, though the anticipation was killer. A complementary foot rub to begin our stay was delightful. The Fijian way of life is simple and unforgettable. Your villa will be nice no matter which one you choose. I thought staying on the ocean was necessary, though if you are pinching pennies...all the villas are nice and it will not affect your stay. You spend few hours in your villa, not a huge issue! The activities are posted for the week....hang with the locals or go on a trek. The waterfall trek is nice and refreshing. Don't be a wus and not take the plung....it's worth it. Chilly water, but so refreshing. Something to be said about the water in Fiji...No this waterfall isn't Niagara, it is still worth the beautiful walk and swim. The diving and private island days are amazing! Snorkeling is unbelievable. There is one computer, but wifi works well in the bar/eating area....it is VERY REMOTE...don't come here if you are high maintenance and require hand holding. Come here to get away from busy city life and people! Come here to relax, and enjoy life without technology! Come here to remember what simple life styles and a good neighbor are all about. Get to know the locals, they are wise and fun to talk too. Showers can be short, so don't be upset if you only get 10 minutes on occasion. The food is great and I am VERY picky eater. Drinks are a little pricey....but they are tasty and there is a hour of cheaper drinks every day at happy hour. The price is worth the service and hospitality. Pool is COLD! Swim in the warm ocean! The dive team is so knowledgeable and safe. They take pride in their equipment and making sure dives are safe and unforgettable. Staff keep your room and the whole place very clean. A couple of guests freaked out about a few wasps....don't bother them, and they won't bother you. Piece of advise....Fiji wasps didn't like my regular OFF....spray that around your porch and you will be good to go. The fruit is fresh and very tasty. This is a great place and will go back some day. Only thing Lalati doesn't have is a large beach to lay out on...until you go visit the private island for the day. Amazing white sandy beach over there...but there are so many other places to lounge in the sun....it was okay. Just do your homework people....if you to be with 8000 other people and all the amenities of the Hilton then stay at the Hilton, but if you want a place "everyone knows your name" with unmatchable service...come to Lalati! A piece of heaven!

I should of known from the start. I had a travel agent talk me into this resort because we are outdoor's type people. We wre supposed to travel to new zealand but due to the earthquake we had to make an alternative plans. The travel Agent made in error in telling us the resort was all inclusive. When we arrived it was just food. We ordered a honeymoon package, sunset cruise, private island, and zipline. We never received our honeymoon package.
On day two the managers were nowhere to be found to plan our excurions for the week. The couple in the bure next to us told us they have some planned too and have not been talked too. They have tons of misquitos. sometimes they had repellers while your eating but most of the time you were ate alive.

We were put in the bure next to the bar and eating area so every morning we heard the kitchen crew. Not to mention they were building another bure so we had early construction nosie and late nights of other couples drinking and yelling till all hours.

We were finally told our schedule on the fourth day that we were going zip lining. this was such a great experience. after ziplining in costa rica this was even better then that. the fifth day we went on the sunset cruise in the rain. not sure why they didnt cancel it because there was no sign of the sun. more like a soaking wet cruise. on the 6th day we went to the private island for 3 hours and really enjoyed it. that was the largest picnic lunch i have ever had. we tried to call via cell phone to ask to stay longer and was told by chris the boat is already on its way. waiting an hour and a half with everything packed up the boat finally came. in this time we could of enjoyed the island more.

I will never reccomend this resort to anyone because of the last night experience we had. We were notified by another couple staying that we were in a tusami warning due to what happend hours ago in japan and the resort staff laughed it off. there was a tusami warning of 12 feet high waves at 2am. the resort had no evacuation plan, not a flash light nothing. They laughed it off saying it wasnt going to happen. We spent our last night with little sleep and all packed up trying to think of our own evacuation plan.

We were very close to two other couples traveling during this trip. both were from australia and were very unhappy. one couple left early to another resort on the main island and the other couple stayed 14 days and were very unhappy.

I hope they take these mishaps into conderation for other guests who dont know about these. I would hate for them not to enjoy their entire stay.

Thank you for taking time to post your review on Trip Advisor. We are sorry you did not totally enjoy your stay, and apologize for your disappointment.

We do want to make something clear - that Lalati Resort & Spa definitely has an "exit strategy" for cyclones and tsunamis, and a definite plan for evacuation. I apologize that the staff laughed at your fears, but you have to understand the nature of these tsunami warnings in relation to where our resort is located.

Lalati is blessed to be located in a bay, in what is considered a "safe harbour." Boats from other areas, and other resorts, have oft times docked in the bay, as it is in protected waters.

Tsunami warnings, resulting from earthquake activity occurring anywhere in the Pacific, causes a Pacific Tsunami warning to be issued. When any tsunami occurs in the Pacific, Fiji issues a statement/broadcast to all of Fiji. This is not uncommon, The 12 foot wave information warning was for Japan, not Fiji, or Beqa Island. These warnings are quite routine in the Pacific, and normally the warning last a short time.

Upper management and senior staff are all tuned into the Fiji Meteorological Society's website and get updates on all weather activity regularly. We know, minute by minute, what is going on. This was not an emergency for Fiji, and I am sorry you were lead to believe it was, and spent an unnecessarily sleepless night. Lalati has never been hit by a tsunami, and because of its location, is not expected to ever experience one first-hand either.

This does in no way condone the staff's actions, but in their defense, these are simple island villagers. These warnings have been part of their life since they were born. And they don't understand that Americans do not have their same point of reference. Both staff and management should have reassured you that all was well. But we want to be sure you don't mistake their casual attitude with one of not caring - as our staff, as all Fijians, are the most warm and caring people anywhere. We all can learn a lot from their "no worries" look on life!

Again, sorry your stay wasn't the perfect adventure you were seeking.

Lalati was an amazing resort. The staff and island were all around amazing. It's not a huge tourist resort thats just out to make tons of money by shuffling in as many people as possible at once, which makes it a more relaxed trip. The location is a bit of a travel but is well worth it. There are only ten total available bulas which makes your stay more personal. It is almost as if the staff is required, in advance, to study a your pictures and have your names memorized. They are incredibably friendly and ready to help you with anything you may need. The dive staff was just amazing. Paul and Kirsti were extremely knowledgable and helpful. They loved their jobs which in turn makes your dives that much better. They were sure to point out numerous types of sea life.

We stayed in the Honeymoon Beach Front Room. It was AMAZING. The room was huge for just two people. The two person indoor shower was very spacious. The outdoor shower was very secluded and it was very relaxing to take a shower outside. The jacuzzi overlooking the ocean (if you open the privacy doors) was more relaxing the any jacuzzi in America, except maybe Hugh Hefner's. The ocean breeze kept the room cool throughout the day and night.

The entire staff was always helpful, no matter what time of day. The food service and bar staff were beyond any American standards. They treated us like family. They made you feel like royalty yet it had a down to earth feeling. The guides were always willing to stop what they were doing and take you on whatever adventure you wanted to take. We only went on the waterfal trek, due to the amount of diving we did. The waterall trek was roughly a 45 min hike through the jungle. It was a little rough. Which was a good thing. there wasn't really a man made trail it was just walking through the jungle to go see a waterfall. This made the experience outstanding.

The diving was by far the best thing to do in all of Fiji. The colors of the fish and coral were beyond explanation. There were more dive sites available than the days we had to dive. We went on five two tank dives, including a shark feed. The shark feed was definitely the best dive. There were over 7 species of sharks feeding all with in arms reach. The 20ft long Tiger shark, named Koopa, was just beautiful. I highly recommend doing the shark feed. It has to be one of the top ten most amazing things to do in the world.

Overall Lalati Resort is one of the best places to visit.

Me and my boyfriend recently stayed at the beautiful Lalati for 5 nights at the back end of June. From the moment we pulled up to the jetty we knew we were in for a treat. We were greeted by 5 Fijian staff singing to us. We were handed fresh coconut as well as a lai before being invited into the bar area to have a lovely foot massage!

We stayed in one of the Ocean Front Villas. They were absolutely massive and were decorated with fresh flowers every day. Although there wasn’t air conditioning within the rooms the ceiling fans provided a more than suitable alternative. We slept with them on every night and didn’t find them to be too noisy.

As we were only staying for 5 nights we wanted to make the most of the vast amount of activities the resort has to offer. Whether it be kayaking down to Bat Island, going on a snorkel safari or visiting a local village with Meke… aka the incredible Hulk (this man can carry more suitcases than most planes). One person has wrote on here that you can do as much or as little as you want at Lalati. This couldn’t better describe the ambience of the resort. Both myself and my boyfriend had never felt so relaxed in our lives. After doing activities in the morning we often returned to our villa to simply relax and sit in the hammock.

The best activity by far is the private island day trip with picnic! We spent 5 hours on the island which is about 20 minutes in the speedboat from the resort. Meke took us there and set up ‘camp’ with sun loungers, chairs and an umbrella. We then spent the morning/early afternoon sun bathing, snorkeling and making our way through the huge picnic the resort provides… not to mention keeping hydrated with a glass or two of Oyster Bay. This was most definitely one of the highlights our stay.

The staff there couldn’t be nicer, each and every one of them calls you by your name (how they remember 20 people’s names I don’t know) and that was something we had never experienced within a resort before. Chris and Sarah, the managers of the resort were always around, always asking how the holiday was going and if they could do anything to make our stay better. They do a fantastic job and their passion for the resort is clear for all to see.

The food… where do I start! We were never hungry put it that way! 3 course meal every night was just great, with a great variety too… you get handed a menu each morning with 3 different options! They cater for all types of dietary requirements which is just great… the pizzas we had for lunch one day were a particular highlight… Delicious!!

The day before our departure we went and has massages which were fantastic! Although Mary looks fairly timid she is very strong, do not be deceived! We then enjoyed a night drinking cava (really strange feeling, but still an unforgettable experience) and drinking cocktails. Sarah then came out with some bread and suggested we head out to the jetty to feed the fish… they were literally jumping out the water to take the food from our hands, it was fantastic.

In a nut shell Lalati is a truly remarkable place, the staff, the facilities, the food etc was exactly what we had hoped for and more. We will be back for sure, it’s a just a case of when and for how long. If anybody is wondering which room to take, my advice would be to spend that little bit extra and upgrade to the Ocean Front Villas… they are spectacular.

Thanks, and see you soon.
