“Interesting site, but not as cool as the others”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

The most notable thing about this archaeological site is the ahu platform made with perfectly fitted, mortar-less bricks (thus proving they were built around the time, if not before, the Incan ruins of the Macchu Picchu era). There is also the only female Moai statue to be found on the island, although it is unrecognizable due to the weathered conditions. A guide is best hired for this site to better explain what you are looking at otherwise you might just think its a pile of rocks!

“Love the Fallen Moai!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2012

There's something fascinating to stand in front of these stone giants and see them lying face down.

I can't stop wondering how this happened. What caused the final straw in the clan disagreements that would lead to rival clans to knock down the moai? Didn't anyone see them coming and try to stop them? How did they knock them down?

It's awesome in the true sense of the word!

“If you've been to Peru, go to Ahu Vinapu.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2012

Small ahu, but brilliant stonework. Having just come from seeing Machu Picchu it was shocking to see.

“Good visit”

This was covered on my full day tour. It is a good experience, and provides a good taste of what was ahead.
