This was a great place to stay. We were met at the airport by the owner, Marta, who is very friendly and helpful. We got a ride to the campsite, and a flower necklace :-) We had the first night in one of their tents, which was ready for us when we arrived. The mats were very comfortable, and the sleeping bags smelt just washed. We then had 5 nights (which still wasn´t long enough) in the double room with shared bathroom, which was lovely, and good value. Everything is very clean - rooms, bathrooms, kitchens... The showers are great and always warm, and there are plenty of comfortable spaces to sit around and relax. It was a real pleasure to stay here, and we certainly didn´t want to leave. Marta and Roger are wonderful hosts, and we didn´t want for anything - thank you!!! I cannot recommend mihinoa or easter island enough!

Camping, a dormitory and private rooms, all at very good prices, considering how expensive Easter Island is. Well equipped kitchens (campers have their own), wifi, and an efficient laundry service that's actually cheaper than in Santiago. The owners/staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the whole place was spotless. (It helps that you have to take your shoes off to go into the main buildings, so you don't track mud in!) A particular bonus was that the delightful communal areas made it really easy to meet other guests and arrange to share car hire. I was on the island for two weeks, and am planning to return. I'll stay in Camping Mihinoa again.

Camping Mihinoa is a fantastic place that offers tents with mattress and sleeping bag for rent, as well as dorms and private rooms. This is undoubtedly the cheapest place to stay on Easter Island and it is I believe also one of the most pleasant as it is located right by the sea. The place is owned by a very helpful and friendly family, it is very clean and quiet, and the new kitchen is huge. I spent an idyllic 11 nights there. There is a locker in the kitchen to store your food and valuables. If you book through the internet they will pick you up from the airport free of charge and they will also drop you at the airport for free when you leave.

Overall this is an excellent combined hostel and campsite, right on the ocean with great views (although there can't be much of Easter Island that doesn't have a great view!) But it isn't perfect.

We stayed in a double room with private bathroom at $45US per night. Not cheap, but Easter Island isn't and this was the cheapest we could find on the island.

Positives:
- Location, good free pick up and drop off at the airport, free bag storage on last day.
- Good for sleeping (pitch black at night and very quiet).
- Nice big lounge area and sun loungers in the garden.
- 15 minute walk to the town along the seafront.
- Friendly, helpful staff.

Negatives:
- The worst mattress I have slept on in 4 months in South America. Totally worn out.
- While the kitchen was well equipped it was too small for the number of guests (and the hostel wasn't even full).
- Service could have been better (e.g. not replacing toilet rolls when they have run out).
- The wifi was slow and often didn't work at all. Fair enough if free, but there is a one off 5,000 Peso charge for using it.

This camping/hostal is pretty much perfect, a couple things could be better but nothing that should keep anybody to come here.

First of all, the location is sensational. The fake moai makes great pictures with the sunset and the waves crashing on the rocks and making nice ''explosions'' of water. The sound of the waves is the perfect way to go to sleep and seem to create a white noise effect that makes all the other noises ''disappear''. The staff is good and the two owners are helpful and will do their best to accommodate you as long as you don't expect caviar and champagne. The breakfast, although I didn't had it seemed to satisfy those who did although I don't know the price they charge for it. The wifi is slow but mostly stable which is a nice thing for such a remote place and everything is at reasonable walking distance specially walking on the ocean bordering street. The prices are very fair and the laundry sevice is the cheapest I found so far in South America at more or less 6$ for two ( one white one colored ). The kitchens are mostly well equiped and they have pretty much everything you would need.

The things that are a little blah : the fact you have to get your shoes off in the kitchen, common area ( where the computer is etc ) at all time. Don't get me wrong, all is cleaned but still you will get your socks dirty. The water pressure is good if you are alone but if the other shower is used, it gets difficult so you will probably want to take at odd hours. To be noted that I can only speak about the men side camping showers of course. No freezer in the camping side kitchen even though there is 3 fridges. Finally, the fact that there is no locker where you can put your valuables on a roadside camping is kinda scary so you'll probably want to get your valuables with you at all time.

I would come here again for sure and I am very happy about my experience. It is camping for dummy approved.

Room Tip: Get the tent that is the closest to the kitchen

We camped for 5 days at Mihinoa. After being picked up from the airport by the owners we were given good quality camping gear, a big tent for 4 people (even though we were only 2) together with sleeping bags & comfy matresses.

As it has been said in other reviews, there are lots of rules (no wearing shoes in kitchen? fines of 10.000 CLP for washing clothes in the shower? need to keep your numerated plastic cups/plates in separate lockers? ...) but it only took us a couple days to get used to them.

So on the positive side of course the very reasonable price, perfect location, OK facilities and fun international people. On the not-so-good-side, we found some members of the staff (not the owners) to be rude and impolite but don't let this put you down, we had a great time overall and I would surely come back here for a second visit

Cheap accommodation on the Easter Island is difficult to find. Staying in a tent at camping Mihinoa is a very good option for anyone traveling on a tight budget; and it is actually a nice experience.

You still have a kitchen, showers and toilets nearby. The wifi reaches the tents, but is not free and was very slow. Sometimes it would work ok, but often it was too slow to be usable. Your better bet might be the Internet cafe just up to the street near the LAN Chile office.

The tent, mattress and sleeping bag the camping site provided were in a good condition, and only increased the price by 10% as opposed to just renting the tent place. So there is no point in lugging your own tent around. I did have my silk liner to use with the sleeping bag.

The camp site is on the coast so you can see the waves, and hear them the whole night, which was nice. Hang Roa itself is about 5-10 minutes walk away.

On few nights we had a bit of a storm, and if you're not used to sleeping in a tent when there is a lot of wind and rain, you might sleep badly. But you get used to it quickly.

Happy camping
