“It Required A Lot of Walking But It was Educational And the Scenery Was Good.”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

This was famous for the Bird Man and the history involved. The crater was interesting. The view of the ocean was gorgeous. Be careful where you walk because you are not supposed to get near the rocks. There is a guard that would warn you if you got too close.

“Territory to explore remnants of the Birdman cult”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Orongo is the most famous territory of Chile offering great views of the culture of Chile in artistic form. This place offers peace and relaxing nature, where you want to spend your whole day in the lap of nature. This is the great place to stroll and relax in peace. We are astonished by the beauty of nature. It is located in the southeastern part of Pacific Ocean. This whole island is protected and secured within the world heritage site of Rapa Nui National Park. It is situated at the very entrance of Orongo Ceremonial village, which is the most famous archaeological site. This territory also provides a heritage interpretation and information program for tourist that will regulate and manage the beauty of the territory to enhance the experience of the visitors. The local craftsmen also played an important role on the construction. All in all, this territory is great to visit if you are interested in exploring remnants of the Birdman cult on this island.

“Great view”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

The crater is amazing, but the best thing here is the view of the ocean and the small islets where bird man competition was held. Many tourists here. Free restrooms. We hiked the other side around the rim of the crater, which was an amazing hike and a lot more private! Bring your binocular for sure!

“Mystical must see”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

This is an amazing tradition the bird man ceremony and rituals, and this is the place where it all happened. The views are serb. The sotries even better, suggest getting a good idea who can make it come alive. The most surprising thing is the gigantic crater with a lake at the bottom. There are few place that have this combination of crater, near an ocean in the middle of nowhere, stunning. A perfect place for peace and inspiration. Close to downtown, easy access, thirty mins walk in the site.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

We rented bike and took the 20 minute bikeride from town to the bottom of Orongo. Bikes were a bad choice! The road up to the volcano is steep, winding and long. Rent a car!

Pictures we saw did no justice to the beauty of this site. The houses and smaller islands with the history of the birdman competition make this a must see.
