“A little piece of France in a Spanish Enclave”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Upon conclusion of the mainland tour, we were two married couples visiting Easter Island (in our 50's). We were on the island in the first week of this venue's opening.

A talented Chilean, Carlos, and his artistic wife Paulina, have created a wonderfully french inspired menu from delicious local ingredients, inspired by chilean/spanish style cuisine. The produce was fresh and seasonal. The steak was 'melt in the mouth' and a substantial serve.
The service was discrete and relaxed, which we appreciated.

Carlos makes the best pisco sour. A must when visiting this venue in summer.

On the nights we visited, the restaurant was not full, however the restaurant had only opened days earlier and was still relatively unknown.

In addition to being our host, Carlos was also our guide around the island for 2 days. His exceptional knowledge of the island and its people was most impressive. He is fluent in English, which we found to be uncommon on the island.

We thoroughly recommend BonBon Chinois!

“Good Food, Exotic Setting, Great Potential”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

The ambitious menu here offers items uncommon on Easter Island. BonBon Chinois was opened only a month ago by a talented Chilean-European couple. Its name does not mean you will find Chinese food here; it's named for bonbon chinois, a candy popular among Polynesians. Instead you will find creative Latin American/European fusion such as: bacon and cheese omelet, quesadillas, Chilean-style crab cake, mushrooms stuffed with garlic and smoked chili pepper (merkén), Peruvian-style ceviche, lemongrass-marinated pork, fresh tuna, and sautéed shrimp.
There is a modest but good wine list plus beers from Rapa Nui (Easter Island), Tahiti, Mexico and Chile. There are also a few mixed drinks on offer.
Our dinner was excellent: Chilean crab cake (unlike its New England or Maryland cousins, this is a casserole topped with crispy melted-Parmesan), perfectly prepared fresh tuna in a sesame seed coat and veggies al dente.
Service lagged a bit because only the two owners do everything - wait tables, prepare the food and do the dishes. Somehow they managed to serve a full house though we wonder how they did it. BonBon Chinois is promising and worth a try.
