“Friendly & Helpful staff”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights while touring the island. The staff, Marcela and Carolina (I think), were incredibly helpful and friendly. They made us feel like family and the easy on-site car rental was convenient and time saving. The rooms are large and well-equipped. Nothing luxurious, but clean and functional. Easter Island isn't the place for luxury anyway! We had a great time on the island and a wonderful time at Cabanas Rapa Nui

We stayed for 4 days in October. It is located very conveniently near to the town and the airport - a less than 5 minute drive away for either. It is also on the main road to the coastal sites and also the direct route to the beach, Anakena. I found the place outside of the town was also great, avoiding the town noise and clutter - giving you a chance to enjoy the island's peacefulness without being too far away.

The room we had was always clean. The housekeeper made sure it was swept, dusted and supplied with fresh towels. This also included the dishes. The bed covers were not the newest, but this was a B&B so no complaint - it was colorful, laundered and no tears or questionable stains.

Our room was to the corner away from the lobby/reception area. It turned out to be the only room without a nice glass door view of the garden area. However, it was very roomy and four of us were comfortable with two bunk beds and a double, with lots of room still for our bags, etc.

Security is no concern as around the island in general. So even though we had a lock on the front door and a safe, the back glass door was a simple plastic latch which with some effort can be easily broken.

The receptionists (Marcela especially but also Carolina) were super friendly in English and Spanish. Marcela always had a smile and was happy to give you very frank tips on what to do and where to go. They seemed genuinely concerned to make sure your stay was comfortable at the Cabañas as well as the island.

The family that lived there on the other side of the garden were charming. They were always smiling but kept their distance. Their dog and cat seemed quite at home with strangers around. The kids played all the time we were there, they had a lot of energy - but if you are in a rental be careful as they bicycle a lot around the parking lot.

Previous reviewers comment about toiletries is worth repeating - walk with your toiletry supplies: soap, shampoo, etc. They provide towels and liquid soap for washing hands and dishes only. If you are not particular about insects then bring (or buy in the town) repellants or stronger stuff.

Summary:

Pros - good location to get to places, lots of space, well kept, clean, friendly staff and on site family, decent price, okay breakfast (but not much choice or variety except for the fruit, limited coffee and tea, so take note caffeine addicts), great effort to keep things neat in the garden (to the front, but sadly not to the back)

Cons - not going to win a prize for surroundings as the lot next to it was abandoned, the marker for the dirt road to the place was for us a wrecked car and two balloons (I missed the turn a few times), don't expect much privacy as the glass doors also meant not much between you and the common terrace AND the one thing that I really have to mention - not much lights on the pathway at night to get you to your room from the parking area.

Room Tip: If you need wifi, stay close to the reception. There is only one room without a glass door looking o...

Located less than 10 minutes car ride from downtown and 5 minutes to-from the airport, guarantees you have a lot of land around you: it's peaceful and the views and beautiful.

Our Cabana consisted in high ceiling apartment that included the bedroom area (with private bathroom) along with a kitchen and a dinning area. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated - furthermore,  you can tell the team cares for detail. They will arrange your towels in different shapes and place fresh flowers from the garden in your room and bathroom.

My favorite thing about this place was breakfast, which is served in your room every morning at the time of your convenience. A fantastic spread of breads, jams, butter, cheese, turkey, cereal, milk, yogurt, juice, biscuits or cake and a beautiful fresh fruit salad!

The reception team is very friendly and informative - we had the chance to interact with Marita and Marcela, both very nice to chat to, not only about touristic things, but also about life in the Island in general.

If I were to return to Easter Island one day, I'd love to stay here again - for the cosy room, for the relaxing surroundings, for the kitchen where we prepared dinner every night and for that great breakfast with the yummiest of fruit salads!

Room Tip: The cabanas are all pretty much the same, what varies in the number of beds inside.

We had a wonderful stay here. The room was spacious and clean. I like to take photos at sunset and night, so having a kitchen to prepare very late or early dinners was a must for us. We enjoyed the countryside setting, it was very relaxing. Marcella helped us rent a car, and she made dinner and taxi reservations for us. The breakfast was nice. Only thing to note upon packing for your trip is that you need to bring your own soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair dryer and wine opener.

The hotel manager and owner met us at the airport with leis in hand! Each morning we received a light breaskfast which included bananas from the tree outside our room. Marcela provided with very useful information and also was able to rent a car for us. I would definetly stay here again. Once we left, we were given a gift of shell necklaces each. The room was big and the bathroom was great.

My boyfriend and I visited Easter Island for the first time in June 2011. We stayed for 4 nights and had a fantastic trip. Cabanas Rapa Nui Orito was a wonderful experience. The staff, especially Max (the owner) was wonderful, extremely knowledgable, friendly and helpful! The cabanas are brand new and lovely. They are located about a 5 minute taxi ride from downtown Hanga Roa. We enjoyed being a little off the beaten path (adds to the mysticism of the island!) and Max was always available to call us a taxi, arrange a rental car, or even drive us in himself! He, and the other staff, were able to give us information and recommendations for everything. On our last day, Max arranged for a horse tour and took us himself, which was the highlight of our trip. They do not offer a breakfast, however the cabanas have little kitchens and pots/pans/plates/silverware, which was perfect for us. We plan to stay in touch with him and 100% want to go back. I would recommend these cabanas to anyone traveling to Easter Island!
